Hi This coral has been id'd by folks on line as either a merulina ampliata or a merulina scabricula....In the last weekor so it has developed a bubble on the outer edge of its skeleton...it is a fleshy bubble that pulsates with water flow....is this a spawning behavior or is it a disease or something else??

The white stuff is from a shedding leather.

No expert here, but I recall reading that some corals (in the article it was a trychophilia brain or rose coral) when put under too much light generate gasses too rapidly and cannot pass them through their flesh resulting in "pockets". It is not supposed to be very good for the coral (stress). The article stated to move the coral to a lower light area of the tank. I believe the article was in Tropical Fish Hobbyist from sometime last year (sorry if that doesn't help).

Beautiful coral by the way.

Thanks Doubledown....that makes sense as it is at the top of the reef right under a MH....Everything I read said they liked intense lighting, so thats what he's been getting, plus he is providing shade for my chili coral...If I don't get anyother feedback that differs from yours, I'll have to find a spot to move him to.
Thanks for your response.
