what bulbs do you use? I have always used Pheonix 14k or xm20k. Im about to order or purchase locally some new bulbs. Just wanted everyone who uses halides opinion. Socket mount.

I have a double ended 250w over my 45g tank.

I like the look of the phoenix 14k, but the Ushio 10k has some nice growth.
Aquamaxx's are cheaper, but their spectrum seems to run out extra early.

I have been using 20k Radiums. 250w SE. I actually have a few used ones if you would like to check them out. They were used for about 10 months. Pretty much the end of their life cycle but you could get a good idea of the color they are. Just let me know.

I've always loved the Hamilton 14K bulb appearance... just the right shade of white for me and gives me good growth. I added compact fluorescent actinics for more color plus to give the dawn/dusk illumination. In a 125 gallon tank I have two of the 400 watt Hamilton's.

I have used XM 20K, Hamilton 14K, AquaMaxx 14K, Phoenix 14K, Radium 20K. Out of those I prefer the Radiums for a good combo of color and growth. I just got new ones today. I used the Hamilton 14K's on my first 75g, and I remember things growing really well under them. For for a balance of everything, I go Radiums though, a little more actinic pop in them.

I currently use xm20k's, and I can't tell a difference between those and the Phoenix 14k.Coral Color looks great now though.
