metal halides and yumas

i had my yumas under 400w metal halides before and they were doing just fine in a tank 30in deep. bulbs were inside regular spider reflectors.

im upgrading lights to lumenarc minis not a big deal on its own but also i have a tank now that is only 24in high. if i acclimate them to the new light will i be alright? am i asking for trouble? i probably have more yumas then i have shaded areas in the tank!

id like to hear from folks that are keeping yumas successfully under 400w MH bulbs with lumenarc or lumenbright reflectors. hope i hear some good news. the tank will be mainly SPS but my favorite corals other then SPS are YUMAS!

thank you

also the yumas now are under 4 24w T5s so going back to the 400s would be a big jump. ill probably put some eggcrates on top of the tank and a few layers of screen mesh. ill remove each layer every few days.

I have a Yuma about 2 inches from the surface directly under my 150w, until i switched to this lighting he was about half the size. Def. acclimate him, and if he doesnt adjust just move/shade him.

Whatup! I have some yumas under a 400w radium 20K with PFO reflector. Bulb is 10" from surface, yumas are on bottom, water surface to bottom of tank is 16". All the wild yumas that have gone in there have survived and the only aquacultured yuma I put in there is also fine. I know your yumas are real healthy and will do fine under a 400 with proper acclimation.

On the other hand, I feel like the yumas I have in there are not as happy as the yumas that I have in a tank with a 150w and t5s, or my PC tank, or my t5 tanks, or either of my 10g 70w mh tanks. (all of these tanks are 12" deep with light 5" from surface of water)
I would be interested in hearing how they do. I would guess that they would heal from your cutting well because you obviously have had success but I would be curious as to whether they would leave babies frequently if you do not cut them.

I would like to hear other peoples opinions that have multiple tanks with yumas and different lighting setups

yes your right, yumas tend to open up more when i had them under light that was less bright. maybe kind of like a BTAs when they bubble more under intense light?

got any pictures of your yumas under the radium bulb? im guessing if they are alright under radiums in 16in water im sure they will be alright in 24in water under XM 20k bulbs. ill just have to introduce them slow to the new light. im a little paranoid now because i have 30 less yumas and i cant afford to lose any more. its your fault Kris!

I don't have any pics up now. I am planning to shut down the 400w tank soon or maybe just keep it for montis. The tank itself is very healthy with a lot of nice algaes/sponges and mysis everywhere. I do have a pic on my camera of the pink yuma I have in there catching a live mysis! I have some flourescent oranges in there that don't seem to like it very much. I feel like they will do way better under less intense light or if the tank was a little bit deeper.

Adrain, do you think its best to keep high nutrient loving yumas and low nutrient loving sps together in the same tank? Not that it can't be done with success, but is it optimal?

btw you know I owe you and if you run into problems and lose some yumas I can get you back no prob.
