Meteor Shower Cyphastrea

I am not sure if this coral is actually an LPS or SPS. I got one a couple weeks ago and I believe it has been getting too much light. I believe it has bleached some. I was keeping it under 400 watt 15 k Halides about ten inches below the aquarium rim, 2/3 up in the tank. Does this coral need to be placed in a lower lit area?

Thanks for your input.

Also they typically don't color up nicely until they get to a decent size. It may just be a waiting game.

This was a coral banging with color when I got it. I think I have gave it too much light. I have already moved it to the bottom of the tank. Do you guys have any other care tips for it?

I keep mine in the middle (about 20" from the lights) of the tank under 400K. It is doing great and growing fast.

I've got 3 species of cyphastrea. All three prefer low light, but my chyphastrea japonica can tolerate higher light. It is about 10" under the surface from the lighting in my sig. My ocellina and decadia are both lower, but both of them are bleached in patches from the radium lamp. The decadia especially seems to appreciate lower light.

My meteor shower cyphastrea was kind of losing it's color for a while when I placed it in my tank for over a year. I got it from Atlantis and it did not color up as advertised :(.

I then started monitoring my Mg levels more and started boosting it up to about 1200-1300 and now it's coloring up and growing like crazy. My other corals are also coloring up nicely and regaining their growth as well in my observation. On top of that my lights are over a year old! FYI my Ca has always hovered around 420-430 and alk around 9.9-11.

HTHs,

Minh
