Metering Pump Voltage

Roger,

I recently acquired an old "Water Level Controller 5017", and I believe that the pump is broken, seems to be a Tunze 5000.020.

At least, I hope that's all that wrong ! I would like to attach a solenoid valve in place of the pump, please could you advise me of the voltage and power delivered by the controller. Obviously I need to find an appropriate solenoid so that nothing gets hurt.

Also, at what voltage should I run the Controller itself....it has a variable transformer ?

Many thanks,

kim

9-12V is required. The pumps are easy enough to get and quite cheap. For a solenoid I have one concern, the Osmolator will only allow whatever it is hooked to run 10minutes and if a fill isn't registered in 10min it shuts down and sounds an alarm. I also have a distrust of solenoids having replaced so many in my life, 4 car starters, two washing machine door catches, 3 CO2 and 2 RO. I don't trust them.

Many thanks indeed !

My LFS can get me the pump if I go that route....and I guess I still have the 10 minute time-out problem with that. The solenoid will control a 12 inch vertical standpipe...water just drops from a reservoir above to the tank directly below, so should be reasonably rapid (no kalk involved).

I'm gonna give it a go, but do appreciate you taking the time to advise caution. It's not critical if this solenoid fails.....not the main tank, and no flood is possible. Also I don't expect evaporation to be intense. But if it does fail, I shall remember what you said and kick myself.

Time for Tunze to make a very very expensive but utterly reliable solenoid....

Thanks again (weekend service too ! ),

Hi Roger,

Not meaning to bring back a dead thread, but I came across this thread using Google and thought it would be a good place to post my question.

I am looking to replace the stock osmolator pump with this:

http://www.bulkreefsupply.com/catalog/product/view/id/828/

My top-off water has to go 3.5 ft up, back down to ground level for 3ft across, then up another 5ft to the tank. The osmolator stock pump didnt make it but the BRS Top-Off Doser made it the distance with no issues.

Can I use this pump or are there voltage issues?

Do I have to buy this? - http://www.bulkreefsupply.com/catalog/product/view/id/90/

Or can I switch to the BRS pump without it if I just do my own wire splicing?

Thanks for your time.
