If the eyes of a Miami Hurricane Chalice are getting smaller from when I first got it is it to much or to little light?

Could be allot of things including water quality. Pics and what are the params? What lighting and what is the placement?

Yeah, yeah, yeah...

The one that I have has "taken awhile too take hold" so to say...

Not difficult, just a b!t(h... ;)

Sorry I did not get back sooner, been busy.

Placement is on the sand bed but its on round disks

Calcium 450
Salinity 1.025
Temp 78

I don't test for other things, this is a 5 gallon tank that has water changes done to it every single week, I don't want to have to dose in such a small tank its to risky.

The Chalice is looking pretty good now, I am feeding 2 times a week sometimes just once, I also have an Alien Eye too and its doing well. My lights are LED but not the high tech lights you all have.

Mine are the Ecoxotic Eco Pico Strips, I have 4 strips, one strip is all blue and full strength the other 3 are at 50% nothing is bleaching so that is good. I guess just time and much patience is needed with these types of corals.

What about mag?

I hear that Alk is the main one to from others but if mine is low just a water change will be enough for it? Tank is only 5 gallons.

What do you keep your Alk at?

I like to strip my water so alk around 8 is a must for me. Stripping the water limits the zoox algae within the animals making them fluorescence more. Zoox algae is brown by the way.

The question you need to know though, is what is your alk now, what is it in the salt you are using at the targeted salinity, and what is the alk demand of the tank daily/weekly.

in a tank that size i would be keeping an eye on alk and make sure you have a way to keep the salinity stable (ATO). ALK will fluctuate far more than calcium, the only way to determine if your water changes are enough are to take readings, i'd suggest alk, see what it drops down to in a week.
