do you know if the pendant will run on a magnetic ballast? Or if it would even be worth it?

Yes, it will work, but it will have to be HQI since it is Double Ended. The one bundle with it is a HQI magnetic ballast, the same one that my Maristar light fixture has but in a 150w version.
