All you guys with a 120 gallon (48x24x24) What kinds of lighting do you have and how many watts/ bulbs and ballasts? Trying to get some imput for my mixed reef project. Thanks for any ideas

I'm running 2) 250W SE Hamilton 14K's on Coralvue E-ballasts and supplementing with URI VHO actinics. I'm getting ready to swap out the VHO with the new T5 UVL super actinics though. After my Hamiltons reach the 12 month mark, I'll probably try the Coralvue Reeflux 12K's for curiosity sake. So far, I'm happy with the color and growth but I'm always willing to try something new. :D

On my 120 I run a Sunlight Supply BlueWave 7 dual 250w HQI ballast with 20k Radiums and 2 VHO atinics.

I am running 2 x 250w Ushio SE bulbs on a Dual PFO ballast, with 2 96w PC, that will be replaced with T5's once the reach their end of life.

I have not got that far, my PC's are good for another couple of months.. I've only decided to go with T5's at this point I have not researched company's or types of T5's, I do know that it will be one of the major brands and styles that the big boys are using :D

I am not replacing the MH's only the PC's I will never be w/o MH's

aquactinics 2 times 250 watt with temp contolled fans - 2 t-5s, 2 moonlights on icecap electronic ballast - no regrets

On my 120 I'm running two 400 watt MH's with Hamilton 14ks. Also two 48 inch Actinic VHO's. This works well, but the upper parts of the reef get so blasted with light that no corraline will grow there.

If i were to do it again, I'd go with two 250 double ended HQI's. They put out more light than you would think for a 250, and save quite a bit on electricity and heat generated.

I'm also considering doing T5 on my new 210, but at 7 feet long, I'm not sure how that will work out, so I'll likely stick with MH.

Go with a couple of 250 HQI's and actinic VHO or T5s

I run (2) single-ended 250W XM10K with (2) 10k 65w PC and (2) 65w Dual Actinic PC set up to create a dusk to dawn affect. Actinics come on, then 1 1/2 hours later the 10k PCs come on, then 1 1/2 hours later the MH come on for 8 hours, then the process is reversed for a total of 14 hours of lighting. I also run Fishbowl Innovations (they're one of the RC Sponsors) moonlights...very cool.

Oh yeah...just installed lumenarc reflectors...HUGE DIFFERENCE.
