MH question....

I have 4 110 W VHO lights on my 75. I was wondering if I could run these with 4 actinics and also use say... 2 150/175 (250?)
watt mh bulbs too?

would that be to much and can I put it over a 75?


ALSO!!!

What is the difference in the Ballast? Electronic/ magnetic/???

I see some people selling whole 250 W setups for $75-125

are these old junk ones or????

Why are HQI better or worse then Moguls?

HQI burns from both ends of the bulb which gives better output, Moguls are single ended screw in and only burn from one end and have less output.

Not everything that is cheap is junk, some people just want stuff gone... or their wife really wants it out of sight =).

Just so you know, HQI doesn't mean double ended. I have an HQI ballast with a SE MH fixture. There is an article I found that explains it a bit HERE.

Also, The DE bulbs do not necessarily put out more light than the SE bulbs. They usually have better light output because the reflectors are closer to the light source and there isn't the large socket on one end that blocks some of the output. If you look at the core of the SE bulb you will see that it looks very much like a DE bulb. That is because a DE bulb is essentially a SE bulb that isn't wrapped in the protective glass tube that is used on mogul type bulbs.

I am not claiming to be an authority on lighting but I wanted to point out a couple of facts so things didn't get mixed up.

There is no reason you couldn't just add MH lights to your VHO setup. You may want to look into getting 2 actinic and 2 10K VHO bulbs so you can have the color you like and then you can run the MH only 4-6 hours per day to save on heat, electricity, MH bulb replacement etc..

You don't need to run MH the entire day.

that's what I have now (2actinics & 2 10K) with an icecap 660. I would like to have it where I could run just the actinics for an hour at lights on/off to see the GLOW!
