Mhucasey's SPS obsession

The corals are doing very well, lots of PE in the tank:). I was sick of the dirt and Cyano on the thin layer of sand so I pulled it out rather than deal with it for the next month or so.

Still waiting on the Regal angel to get stronger, I saw this little guy and couldn't resist. Meet "Furiosa":

Very pretty fish. If I am correct is a juvenile Emperor Angel Fish. Amazing color patern in the juvenile and the adult is breathtaking. Aren't you afraid of the adult and your SPS ?

Welcome Furiosa !!!!

Cheers
Daniel

Thanks, I'm not worried- if he becomes an issue I'll trade him out to the LFS. Imperator angels are on the "safer" end of the scale - he will probably pick at the clam but I can move the clam to the other tank.

I recently added one to my tank. Beautiful fish. He did go after my acans so they were removed. Does he cause less PE in sps.... Probably but I can live with it. Hasn't even looked at my clam... Hopefully yours will be the same. Great addition
.
Hmmm a emperor and a regal huh? Now you got me thinking...........

Matt are you planning to use phosphate minus?

Nope, a careful read of their guide states that

In order to reduce the level of phosphates in already functioning or "œfresh" aquariums we recommend using a phosphate reactor with suitable absorber. After reducing the phosphates level in water it should be disconnected as it should not constitute the filtration base in this method.
Phosphate Minus is GFO, and I'm pretty dead set against GFO, so I'm glad that they don't recommend ongoing use of it.

Yep it's a beauty, and I couldn't pass up at 36 bucks. He's eating and swimming all over and we will see how well behaved he is:)

Is a HE or a SHE ....... LOL .

Furiosa is for a female.

Furioso is for a male

Spanish words ..... Cheers Daniel !!!

Had my Emperor for just under a year now. He's just starting to change now with some yellow striping just starting to poke through @ 4.5" long. Real fatty too!

As for being reef safe, far from it. I have been lucky enough that he will only munch on Zoas though which he nailed about 4 colonies in a couple of weeks! Not touched SPS apart from a stylo which he has had an occasional nip at. OTher than that he's been well behaved. Certainly the 'boss' of the tank and the grunting is amusing!

Beautiful fish you have there - hope you get one of the 'good' ones.

I would probably pay to get a fish that ate Zoas, those things are a pest IMO. I don't have any in the SPS reef so not a problem there. I do have a small clam and a open brain that can be moved to the Flubber Reef if needed. I'm excited to get such a pretty fish for the reef.
