Mhucasey's SPS obsession

Update: this morning I dosed 5 drops of NP Pro and 6 drops of ProBio S. This evening, the polyp extension is ridiculous, even by this tank's standards. The water is slightly cloudy as if there is a mini bloom going on....

It's a day late but I know you like weiners and all. :inlove:

Merry Xmas and Happy New Year!

You are pulling some pretty colours out of those acros Matt! Keep up the awesome work! Happy New Year 2016 to you buddy!

Matt, not sure you posted those Aquaforest info links on your thread.. why don't you post them here, as well, since you are switching over to Aquaforest..
and any time you want to post some fuzzy acre pics.. feel free! :)

Phosphate test yesterday and today showed 0.10, so after testing this morning I upped the dose of NP Pro to 6 drops.

Matt, the PO4 level is what most reefkeepers would consider very high, despite that you acro colours do not seem affected...what kit are you using?

Thanks for the links and thanks for the fuzz!!
Corals are looking haaaaaaapy!! :)

Just goes to show you that there is a whole lot more at play in a happy healthy reef than the level of p..
On average, I'd say my p has been consistently closer to .15 (and has been around .18 for a few weeks, now) over the past year, than .05.. Not saying I like it but the corals have not seemed to dislike it so much..
I'm sure, in Matt's case, they won't be up there for too much longer..

Matt,
Congrats on pulling the trigger on AF, I too have decided to move forward on their lineup. My plan is to use the probiotic salt, all ULNS complex, all coral supps, fish v, and also carbon, zeolites, and phos remover. I see you have implemented products, good to hear, I will be following closely, as I should be online next week sometime. Happy New Year!

I use a Milwaukee low range colorimeter MI 412. It is much better and more repeatable than any Hanna paperweight. The higher PO4 values are very recent, up til a week ago I was getting 0.00 on every test.

Matt,

Is 0.1 PO4 reading or P (phosphorus) reading? When I look at my Elos (high sensitivity) test kit's reading chart, I can see the following:

Which 0.1 is yours?

My phosphate reading is 0.015 (P) and 0.046 PO4 according to the colour chart?

Mine is for Phosphate, not Phosphorous. It's one of these:

This tester is supposedly not as accurate as the "Ultra low Range" testers claim to be. However I can take two separate samples and test them and get the same value almost 100% of the time so that shows me the tester is precise. Whether it's accurate is a matter of faith in the mfg specs, but I'm very comfortable with it. You couldn't pay me enough money to use a titration test for phosphate or phosphorous.

Update: Phosphate value is slowly dropping, test was at 0.07 this evening. Im not seeing any signs of NP Pro overdose(bubbles on the rocks) so I added one additional drop tonight and will dose the full 7 drops of NP Pro tomorrow.

I really am not too concerned what the value is as long as the corals are happy. I've been testing to correlate the measured values with the coral's health level and the dosing amount, hopefully the information will be useful for someone reading the thread.

When I ran the Zeovit system I couldn't keep the phosphate value down without far exceeding the specified amount of Zeostart3. When I dosed the larger amount, in concert with the large amount of zeolites, I kept getting tissue loss. I'm hoping to keep the amount of NP Pro from getting out of hand with this system:)

I've been very impressed with the quality of the supplements, carbon, and salt; I think you will be pleased. Keep in mind that even though Deborah uses zeolites and Phosphate minus together, the guide suggests not to use Phosphate minus on an ongoing basis. I would be very careful using the two together.

Good luck! I'm interested in seeing what you think and how it works for you:)

Bulent, your reading is 0.046 if you want to compare it to Matt's. On your kit Matt would be seeing a pale blue close to the 0.092 color dot on the Elos chart. I hope that answered your question, if not then too bad because we're moving forward now and getting back to Matt's AF adventure

What are the acros looking like Matt, showing any visible signs that they know something's up with the new water parameters developing mate.
