I'm new to the whole saltwater hobby but what is the big deal about bubbles? I mean in nature waves and storms make bubbles in reefs every day. No problems there. So why r bubbles so bad???
Good question, But if you walk the beaches on the downwind side you find those "bubbles" are transfering "gunk" to the shore which is much the same type of "gunk" we want removed from our closed systems.
In most cases If you have bubbles "something is not right" in a closed aquarium system.
It is not that bubbles themselves are "bad" but the reason for the bubbles is the problem.
If your skimmer is functioning properly, you will not have micro bubbles from the skimmer in your system, and in the case of a skimmer if you have microbubbles you could be putting the toxins you are trying to remove back into the system, which really defeats the purpose of your skimmer.
Bubbles showing in your system usually mean there is an issue with your system somewhere, and an investigation is usually in order to find out why.
Some people actually use a air pump to inject micro-bubbles into the system "at scheduled intervals to up oxygen levels and saturate there system with oxygen. But it is done only periodically and it is considered somewhat controversial.
But one huge reason bubbles are bad is they cut down on visibillity which affects enjoyment.
Hope that helps!!
