Micro Bubbles

I have two 6100s in my 220 galloon tank. when the pumps switch from off to on micro bubbles are pushed out in the water stream. I know the pumps are generating the bubbles because every morning the bubbles in the tank are greatly reduced. By the time I get home from work theere are tons of bubbles again.

I cleaned boht pumps in vinegar very thouroughly last week ( inside and out ) still getting bubbles. If I turn the power setting to 20% - no bubbles, but then not much water movement. Are the blades on the pump causing the bubbles by cutting the water too severly??

what would elimniate the bubbles.

They could be too close to the surface and pulling in air.

how far below the surface should they be?

Roger can tell you for sure but you should be able to see it if it's a problem. Turn it up full power and watch it for 5-10 minutes. You should be able to see a vortex form every now and then if it's too close to the surface.

I know for a fact that at full power I did see a vortex ocassionally , that is why I had to turn down the power. I thought as long as I did not see a vortax at lower setting I was ok.

I'll try moving them lower as soon as I get home tonight.

My tank has bubbles near the end of the photoperiod. It is from oxygen saturation.

I tested the air draw theroy and no go . At one time I saw a vortex by one of the Streams but this Saturday when I tried it at full speed no luck ( no vortex ) .

I did rotate the vent cover 180 degrees so that the solid portion of the cover is at its lowest travel on the Stream. It is now at the bottom side of the pump instead of being on the highest side. this seems to have helped alot. With the solid portion at the top of the Stream it must have been trapping air bubbles and then each time it started it spit them back out. There is the ocassional bubble now and then but not at all like there used to be.

I'll check it out tonight when I get home tonight and see how things have progressed. See if this is the fix

why do you say it is from Oxyegen saturation? How do you know this?

Photosynthesis. Your corals and algae are producing the most oxygen at the end of the photoperiod. I notice bubbles in the evening more than in the afternoon, and they build up in filters and pumps and once in a while one big one gets drawn through and I get a burst of them.
