micro-reef lighting

Hey me and my roommate are trying to establish a 10g reef tank we just started to cycle. Right now we have 7lbs of liverock and then some other regular rock, we also have some live sand. Currently we have 2 15 watt fluorescent fixtures, one has a Coral Sun Actinic 420 bulb and the other a regular daylight. Remember its only a 10g tank, and if i am assuming correctly that wattages add, we have 3w/g. Will this be enough to get our live rock really cooking? How much lighting do you guys recommend that wouldnt break the bank?

well, with the lighting i have, what options are available if any?

but i am mostly concerned at this point in providing enough light for the live rock to flourish and spread hopefully to the non-live rock in the tank.

Live rock actually colors up better in low light, you should be fine for shrooms and zoas. Im not very experienced in nanos, but you just may not have enough for really light intensive zoas. Im sure you would keep them alive just fine, they just prob would dull their colors some, and not grow very fast.

A ten doesn't work well as a FO tank so leather corals are a good low light solution. You might also consider upgrading to T-5 or PC lights to give you a broader selection on what you can keep.

In response to your original post, sixspeed, I don't think you will really want to get your live rock "cooking" I]par se[/I] ... let's just concentrate on keeping it alive!!!! lol!!! hahaha WELCOME TO THE FORUM!!! :bum: :bum: :smokin: :smokin: :smokin: :smokin: :smokin: :smokin: I think that what you really need to do is not be low
