Microbubble filter sock question

I have a small microbubble problem and i think it is due to the overflows that drain into the sump. i did some research on here and found that alot of people use 100 micron filter socks on the overflow inlets to the sump. but won't that kind of defeat the purpose of the skimmer? won't the filter socks trap everything the skimmer would normall collect?

It will trap some stuff, mostly particulates that a skimmer probably wouldn't get anyway.

I do the same thing and my skimmer works just fine Just make sure to wash them 1-2 times per week, or they'll turn into a nitrate factory. Stuff gets trapped and decays.
