Microbubbles

I have a couple tanks draining into a 100 gal display, and I'm having trouble with micro bubbles. Any suggestions on how I might eliminate them? I've turned the flow down about as much as I can. I've been experimenting with plumbing but cant make them go away.

The MB arent coming from the sump they're being created when the drain water comes down into the display from the other tanks.

Are the returns that drain INTO the display completely submerged? If so, try bringing them about halfway out of the water, and maybe even add on a bubble trap if there's room- physically and asthetically.

remove the air at the source.

whatever the source is. put a downturned elbow at the inlet, silicone the pipe seams ect. if theres no air on the way in there wont be on the way out.

if they arent submerged at the inlet, you could make a bubble box(like a reverse overflow box so the water and air are forced up near the surface after entering the tank. so the bubbles dont get pushed down, they just rise up.

The sources are:
1) 35 gal fuge
2] 30 gal breeder
Both of these tanks are drilled with homemade overflow boxes. I've tried the down turned elbow, but the water in the overflow builds up and then surges

Can you give us more info on the drain setup on the other tanks? THey should be totally submerged

The drill holes are about 4 inches down from the top with a bulkhead and screen.

There is room over and behind the tank do you know of any examples?

You can see what the overflows look like here.

put a box at the outlet in the tank, and have the walls of the box go up to maybe a cm under the water level. bubbles have to go up and over the box. hopefully they just rise out the rest of the way.

kind of like a simple bubble trap baffle that youd see in a sump, but smaller hopefully.

I just took some pics of what I've got.

This things works okay it's taken care of all of the larger bubbles. I'm going to try to extend it deeper into the tank but I'll have to get rid of the drilled cap, and put a tee in its place so the sand doesnt get blown everywhere.
