Im getting microbubbles all over my live rock in my show tank. There is a little bit of green hair aswell. Is this all related to overlighting?

I had 175w mh lights with old bulbs that sat right at water level. i had those for a few months to hold me over. then i bought new led black boxes that now hang 10 inches from the water but thebubbles dont seem to be getting any better.

Any ideas?
thanks

Is the tank new? Do your rocks have a slightly fuzzy appearance with bubbles on them? You could have calothrix (a type of cyano) or dinoflagellates. If you have dino, you might see long tendrills of brownish stuff with bubbles in it.

Lights do not cause bubbles or algae, the algae needs nutrients and light. Hair algae lives and grows where there is sufficient nutrients and light. It does not come from old bulbs, it comes from nutrients, most notably phosphates. A pic goes a long ways towards helping figure out what is going on as well as a listing of the water parameters. :-)
