Midas Blenny Food Types

Hello RC!

So I got an African Midas Blenny who for the most part is doing well. It's my first and only fish ATM. She's been eating like a little pig up till a few days ago. (Mysis, Brine, and chopped clam). I just got over a treatment of Prazipro. I know that can suppress appetite, but I am thinking she may just be telling me something. "I'm sick of this sh*t!"

She darts at food to identify and then just swims away.

I have never fed pellets, but I am thinking of picking some up as well as some nori or something? I tried some of this Marine Herbivore frozen stuff. She wouldn't touch it.

Ideas? Input? Help?

Mine eats everything. Mysis, Rods, Cyclopeeze, brine with spirulina, thera A 1mm pellets and omega 1 flake food. She'll even nip at freeze dried krill that I feed my cleaner shrimp and nems.

You could try any of those that you did not list. Also try soaking the food in garlic or selcon.

Wow. I haven't even heard of most of these.

Thanks for the tips. I wouldn't have even thought about the size of pellets. I'll be looking for 1mm after work today. What about algae or herbivore food? Should I try the nori?

That's the other oddness. I have algae in the tank. Some green hair and stuff on my rocks, plus a lot of rooty type growths. I thought a Blenny would be all over that stuff. Not that I am depending on her for algae control. I actually like a bit of life on my rocks. Just I thought it would be a good food source for her.

No problem. You could try nori. I don't really feed nori as it makes a mess in my tank as I don't place them on an algae magnet. I crumble it and broadcast feed when I do use it. The frozen herbivore food i feed is called gamma and it has brine shrimp with spirulina.

For pellets, she'll usually take a pellet and break it in her mouth spit it out a few times and continue to eat it. There are smaller sized pellets (0.5 i think) that you could try as well.

My midas won't go for anything on the rocks. The majority is from the food in the water column. Only my lawnmower blenny and turbos go for algae on the rocks and walls of tank.

Midas blennies are blennies but they are planktovores and not herbivores. That means they prefer planktonic foods such as mysis more than anything algae based. You can normally get them feeding on brineshrimp then move onto mysis which is much better nutrionally.
Cyclopeeze is also a good shout but they should learn to except pretty much anything you feed in time.

They didn't have much of the above listed, but I did pick up spme pellets. Omega One Micro Pellets. She gobbled them up like a madman! Added some clam as well and she had a bit of that too. I think I will put together a DRSmiths order and have more variaty of stuff on hand. I want to try some of that Cyclopeeze stuff. Their web page has my interest.

Thanks again. From both of us!

If you are getting cyclopeeze, get the frozen stuff as it is easier to get into the water column. LPS corals exhibit feeding response to it as well (if you care).
