so i got a green brain the other day. first coupedays it seemed to look normal....checked it out at night and it would be all bloated with tenticles out. seemed normal..yesterday i noticed that during the day the "colored" part is extreamly receded and you can see what looks like white vanes all over...i am assuming this is the skeletal structure of the coral itself. my question is...should the fleshy part be receding this much or do I have a problem? the vanes are more noticable toward the mouth area but you can see some on the edge....i'll get a pic asap

i do have a neon green leather and some purple zoa's that are doing great btw

Trachyphilias can pull back like that as a stress response to stimulus, etc.. They are basically just pumping all the water out of their tissues. Leave it in the tank in a low to moderate flow area of water. Tuck the base into the gravel as that is the way they tend to grow in nature. Taking Trach's out of water can tear their tissue and stress them to where they won't open.

What are your water parameters? How are other corals in the tank? What is lighting? Have you tried feeding it at all?

water....ph 8.2 sal 1.025, ammonia and nitrites 0ppm, nitrates 0-5 ppm constant 80 degrees. I have him in a moderate flow area atm. tried feedin him 3 days ago....water flow kept flushin the lil piece of shrimp out of it's mouth....i'll move him to a low flow area and try and feed him tonight. would there be anything wrong with shuttin off the lights early in a attempt to feed him? how about moving him to a almost no flow area to keep the lil piece's of shrimp from flowing out?

my other corals are doing just fine

they don't need a ton of light or flow. what is your alk? lps have different needs than soft corals.

It can take a week or two for them to settle in but you should be seeing improvement. feed it if you can they will only take food if the tenticles are out.

not sure what the alk is......taking a water sample up to Reef tech in medford this week when i head up there.

lights have been off for about a hour....i put a lil piece of shrimp in the center....tenticles wern't out but i'm hopein in the next couple hours i'll see a change

popped the lights on real quick to check progress.....damned amphipods pulled the shrimp meat out and were feastin on it....lil bastards....but i did see about 5 tenticle nubbs stickin out....so there's hope :spin1: put another piece of shrimp meat in him...will continue to monitor as it seems my insomnia is kickin in again lol

p.s. this checkin every couple hours is workin wonders on my fireworm/bristle eradication...have got one of each so far....fire worm was small.....but did nab a 5 inch bristle worm

When keeping stony corals, one needs to be concerned with alkalinity, calcium and magnesium levels. Those are very important and if they're not in range, declining health is likely.

well...i'm fairly certian the coral didnt make it...no tenticles nothing again last night...and i'm quite certian the amphipods were consuming him as i counted no less than 10 right in the center of him
