Mike's 300 Double-D

Congratulations young man! Now, no more peeing on the floor this time!!!!

Can I have an "AMEN! to that!!"

YES!!!

The long wait is finally over!! WOOT!

You definantley have a good friend to bring a truck and deliver the tank.he must be a amazing individual.

We do! I'll be sure to introduce you to him sometime. :hmm4:

Looks great guys! It killed George not to be able to help yesterday but we are ready to help with catching the fish and putting them over to their new home!! We have buckets and stuff if you need us to bring them over. Might still have the tarp we used for our switch...just let us know! RC has such amazing people!!!

Of course we will have you guys over when we do the livestock transfer - any excuse to have another party :D

:fish1: :fish2:

OK - so the new custom 300DD is pretty sweet. Here are a couple of pics of the tank. Love the nice open corners:

Sorry about all the reflections here, but you can get a nice view of the bottom euro-bracing:

Tonight, I put in some plugs for the closed loop holes and did our first "water test"...the great news is that everything is holding up great, and the stand is just absolutely perfectly level! YEEE HAWW! :bounce1:

What a reefkeeping saga! It was as exciting and heartbreaking as a Disney film! Looking forward to future updates. What are your plans for exhausting heat/moisture from the canapy?

Looking great Mike! The fun begins!!! :)

Yes it does Brett, and this time we get to improve on things yet again! :hammer:

Awesome I love the dimensions of that tank.

Looking forward to seeing this one evolve.

Thanks Dustin! Honestly, we are too. Moving all the livestock out of the garage will certainly give everything a better chance to thrive. :)

Hello Mrs. Music... thanks for checking out our thread. We certainly have had more than our fair share of drama. And to answer your question, we have been researching that quite a bit. We had a HVAC expert come over and look at some kind of ERV solution. There aren't many people doing that here (at least that we've been able to find or get to respond to threads) Any ideas would be great!

you want a nice shiny penny to put in that tank? ;)

LOL Mr. Winters! :D

i spend the last hour reading your build... not sure how you had the courage of rebuilding.

Mike, thanks for visiting... We're not gonna lie, we've had some weak moments where we've seriously considered walking away. Then we walk up to the temporary tank and see our spoiled-rotten fish bouncing around the tank like puppies begging for food and it reminds us why we're in this thing. The love of the animals in our care is what it's all about.

We've learned a lot through this experience and made a lot of design changes so that this new build will be even better than the last. :D

So glad you guys hung in there. It would not be the same without y'all. Hope to see you soon, and have fun doing this again. If you need anything give me a call. LMK when you want the ORA German Blue Acro. I had Melissa try to call you on Sunday when they were up and she got no answer. I had a couple small frags but did not want to send that to you. I can do a fresh cut for you at anytime.

Best wishes
Lynn and Anna

Thanks Lynn. We would love to have a piece of the ORA German Blue, but definitely need to wait til things settle down after the switch... Chuck said they got several nice frags from you the other day. :)

Great to see youve finally received the new tank. Congrats!

Thanks man! Just subscribed to your thread - lookin good!

Looking good Mike, lot of work I know. It will be nicer than before!!!

Thanks Doug!

OK - wet test was a success. So next, we drained out the tap water and washed the inside down with vinegar followed by R/O. Wiped all that down and did a silicon inspection. The tank looks to be very well put together. We really like the custom work on the overflow and the bottom eurobrace. Here are some detailed pics for those who are interested in those factory modifications.

First, an overall shot for perspective:

We cut the StarBoard into two sections, marked the holes, and used a 2.75" hole saw for the closed loop outlet bulkheads:

Some dimensions of the mods:
The eurobrace is 3" wide, and 0.5" thick.
The overflow is 14" wide, and 7"deep, for a total of 28" linear overflow surface.

We also did some of the plumbing mods today, but we'll post more details on that later. Thanks for watching and for all the support!

I love this build and have been watching from the sidelines for a long time. The cabinetry and your patience really deserve a lot of credit.
I cant recall ever having seen a tank without an actual base under the glass before, it seems odd looking through the glass to the stand.
Have I missed something?...will it remain this way? Any concerns over the integrity of this method?
Are you going BB?..it will give a unique perspective to some photos if you are.

Thanks for the kind words and for participating in our thread!

As for the stand design, we used a variation of the basic stand design in the DIY Stands Template and Calculator Thread. We did have a structural engineer (who is also a reefer) verify that the design of our replacement stand is WAY MORE than sufficient to support the new tank. :)

Regarding the Starboard, we are just utilizing it under our rock structures as added protection for the bottom glass and will be adding a 2" sand bed like we had in the original tank.

:fish1:

The vinyl looks good - where did you get it from? Looks like you applied it straight to the glass? How does it stay on and how will you keep it clean?

We got the background thru our LFS. One side has adhesive and yes it was applied directly to the outside of the back glass. We sprayed a soapy water solution on the glass to aid in the application.

Talked with Marc from Marcorocks.com on Monday to order 100+ lbs of rock. What a GREAT guy! Can't wait til the shipment arrives on Thursday! We'll post some pics when it gets here.
