Mike's 300 Double-D

Congrats on the split! (If RC threads still split at 40 pages, that is)

Seriously though, 40 pages of amazing success and terrific pictures!

Thanks Alex! Guess we'll see on the split, LOL.

Happy Friday everyone! Thought we'd kick start the weekend by sharing a recent video of the tank:

Great video Mike! I really enjoyed reading your entire thread....u guys did a great job and I'm glad u didn't give up after the 2 disasters.

I also liked your idea about using the rods to aquascape your rock like bonsai. Where did u buy your rods and what kind of drill bit did u use so u didn't break any rock? I remember reading it, but it would take me forever to go back and find it.

Amazing journey!

The last video there was amazing! You all have really created an awesome reef!!!

Next time I'm down in Richmond I will have to look you guys up!! ;)

Great job on the Video, I really enjoyed it.

Thanks Brett - come by anytime and see it in person!! A quick drive up 95! ;)

Great video Mike. Your tank looks like a very relaxing place to be sat in front of.

Indeed, Matt, it is. We've been neglecting our other chores these days sitting in front of the display... Good distraction.

Thank you Tim - we always are pleased to hear of someone who gets something from the thread. The fiberglass rods came from McMaster-Carr and the drill bits were a combination of things. For the vast majority of the holes, we used these Irwin spade bits, and for the really hard rock, we used a masonry bit. The trick with drilling the holes in liverock is to go slow, let the drill do the work, and keep the bit wet. If you get impatient, or try to muscle the process, you'll likely bind up the bit and shatter the rock.

Amazing journey!

Thanks Ziggy. I think there's a progressive reef crawl coming up soon...

WOW!! Very nice!

wow nice video... also like your blotchy anthias

Great video Mike. Really brings the pics to life. :)

Thank you very much guys! Glad you enjoyed the video.

Did you take that video with your DSLR? Does yours autofocus or do you have to manually focus?

Alex, we shot this particular video with our Panasonic HDC TMC700 camcorder which does autofocus. Our Nikon D300s will shoot HD video, but is limited to 720p.

The scientific name is Holanthias borbonius and a couple of common names used are Borbonias Anthias and Blotched Anthias. They are definitely very striking fish.

Happy Friday! Thought we'd share a few pics...

This is what we usually end up with when attempting to snap a nice pic of one of the wrasses, lol:

Our female P. bellae has morphed into a very handsome teenage boy:

It is rare to catch our C. rubrisquamis putting on a display, but happened to have the camera at the right moment:

This is not the best top-down shot, but w/the Regal Angel peeking out, we couldn't resist:

Mike, I tried to PM you but I do not have enough posts. I presently have a 220, but I already ordered my 300DD. Do you have drawings or plans for your stand? If so would you email them to me at adg426@aol.com?
