Mikes 360 Gallon Reef

Let me know if you need help dialing in that reactor. It's a little complicated but once you understand it, it's pretty easy to make adjustments. Also, you can continue to dose vinegar and vodka with a CA reactor. Vodka and vinegar is just a carbon source for bacteria to grow/ feed

yeah man, I could use some help. Still not quite getting it down. May need to start giving you some frags too in case my corals melt away.

Ok, I'm OUT!!!! I just don't have time for this hobby anymore and it's not fair to my livestock.
Selling Advance Acrylics tank and sump for $2200 (NO SCRATCHES)
Stand and Canopy for $1800. Livestock needs to go first so I'll be posting a FS thread soon.

I'll take some fish. My tank is always running low on fish. I sent you a PM

Wow I was going to compliment on your stand but anyway having a large tank is not easy on both time and money.

I appreciate the kind words everyone. It's just that the tank became more of a chore then a pleasure so it's probably for the best. I have way too much Real Estate/Lending stuff to do so that's what I need to focus my time on now.

Beautiful tank. You're one talented man to build such beautiful furniture quality stand. jacobl is right, maybe restart with smaller size, 150g is perfect if you ask me. Bigger is not always better. If you have a healthy 3"-4" Achilles I'll take him! Good luck with everything!

Nah, if I'm taking down my dream tank then I'm out permanently. This tank was my 3rd start up so I think it's for good now. I'll just allocate the money I was spending on my tank to go snorkeling in Cancun.

Ok, I chickened out. I kept my tank and finally threw the doors on my stand. I guess if I'm going to keep it then I better figure out what I'm doing wrong. A few months ago I added a CaRx and kept trying to get that thing to drip consistently. I'm not sure if it was that or my auto fish fish feeder that nuked some of my nicest SPS because I had a crazy cyno outbreak for some time. I ended up turning off my CaRx Co2 feed and just let it run "clean". I also started to hand feed my fish and also experimented with turning off my fuge light in my sump. Just like everyone else I hate losing corals, especially prized SPS.So, I figure I have to do things differently. Maybe SPS is too much for me right now? Maybe I should try doing some nice softies/LPS/ric type tank instead. I know if it moves then my wife will like it instead of my colorful sticks. LOL

I was also thinking of the following:
1. Just getting rid of my fuge. It seems like there was a grip of cyno in my fuge so it's possible old food was building up in there.

2. Bite the bullet and go back to just adding Kalk. I never had an issue with it before.

3. Adding more flow and possibly upgrading my lights. I'm still sporting AI SOL's.

4. Selling/trading a bunch of old gear/stuff I've been storing (ya'll know what I'm talking about) to clear up some space.

Also, I have a ton of coraline algae on the front of my beautiful "scratch free" acrylic tank. I dread having to clean it off but know I better crack the whip since it's only getting worse. Any tips on the best way of doing this?

Get a chaeto reactor instead of a fuge or add a filter sock to catch all the junk coming through your drain.

Btw beautiful stand!!

Thanks. I appreciate it.

Regarding chaeto I prefer not adding more equipment that I have to check/maintain on a regular basis. I need my tank to be in cruise-control somewhat.

agreed to keep it simple. I don't use fuge on mine, just dose 2 parts and use kalk solutions for ATO, small reactor for Carbon and GFO. my system only 90 gallon so do 10 gallon WC/wk.
Try easy sps like Monti cap, birds nest, red dragon. I use Radion and they all thriving. I think your lights are fine. I can give you some frags if you like to try

Yeah man, that would be appreciated. Thanks!

Glad your keeping it up and going!

Thanks dude!

One of my saddest moments was when the coral that you gave me (same one in your avatar) started melting away. It's one of my favs. Right now there's a little bit hanging on for dear life. Hopefully it pulls through.

I have a power head inside my fuge. It helps keep detritus from settling, and also keeps my chaeto ball spinning.

Hmm, yeah but then I'm adding more gear/heat to my tank, especially with summer coming up. I appreciate the tip but I think the fuge is going to be taken out and a frag setup will take it's place.

Honestly though, aside from growing pods is having a fuge really that beneficial?? I've always ran a tank with one but I've still suffered from algae problems/stability issues. I've seen tanks without them and they seem to be doing just fine too. I'm fine giving my tangs nori instead of macro.

The main purpose of my fuge isn't to grow pods, it's to help remove nutrients. I don't believe a small power head adds any heat to my tank. I have 2 small Tunze's in my sump, and saw no noticeable difference in my tanks temp. As far as maintenance goes, in the past 2 years, I've never had to remove them to clean them.

BRS just did a test that proved that even a small fuge helps remove nitrates and phosphates. You should watch the videos, its got a lot of good info.
