Mike's Starphire 150 w/ frag tank build

My lights are two lumenbright pendants run by a galaxy dual 250 ballast. I build a box to house the lights and raised them 17" 1/2 inches from the water surface.

I secured anchors to the roof into the joices

and into the light box

Here is the lighting on the ground

and once it was hung

I will hide all the wires later and you will have to forgive all the bubbles in this pic the water level in the sump was very low and the return was sucking in air. I need to set up my ATO.

Did some acrylic work over the last few days, though I suck at it. I wanted to attach my 1" rods to my bases and figured I would decrease the pressure points by spreading out the end and increasing the surface area. Figured it would also give it more stability once glued. It worked out well as I did two rock towers today.

this propane barely did the job, i should have spent the 5$ on some mapgas

Well its not pretty

all finished

Worked on the sump a bit as well

No one wanted to buy my Ca 2+ reactor so I did a little research and found that it is difficult to get long term success with 2 part anyway, not to mention a much greater cost so I figured I have it I may as well just use it. My hesitation was based on the risk of a rapid decrease of pH. I just decided to use a pump for the reactor rather than have the supply tee from the return line. This way the CO2 can not leak in into the feed line. I can just have my controller monitor pH and turn off the pump for the reactor if it gets too low.

So I cut out some acrylic to house all my tubes. The small piece will house the lines to and from the Ca reactor (effluent and affluent). The larger will hold the lines from my chiller, phos reactor, ATO, and carbon reactor, in that order from left to right. Ca reactor will dump to my fuge and the other lines will empty to the return chamber of my sump.

Also set up my RDS (remote deep sand bed) figured I do 5" and split the advised 4-6" DSB depth

Will get pics of the rock towers I built tomorrow. Tank has been running for almost a month with sand now, need the controller to come and everything should be ready to go.

Found a pick of everything all plumbed before I hung the lights and skinned the stand, don't know why I didn't post it earlier.

Very nice, very clean looking. Can't wait to see the tank with fish and corals in it, you have done a nice job. I like the idea of the UV Sterlizer off your frag tank and a way to by pass it if you want, I will use that idea one day, lol.

Where did you order the tanks?

I got them from Matt Plane of Plane Inc. He used to make tanks for a major tank manufacturer but now just makes a few from time to time on the side. PM me if you would like his number. He is in Temecula CA.

Yeah I still need to add a valve that will make cleaning easier. I suggest putting three valves on the setup that I have shown. One to divert flow, the other two to allow the flow to be shut off to the reactor which would allow removal of the UV unit to clean the sleeve. As it is now I would have to tun off the system to clean it or divert all flow to the backup drain.
