Milli ID

hmmmmmm
This is a piece I will be receiving tomorrow from D&D. They did not have it labeled as a sunset milli but the colors look to be the same. Tell me what you think. Some pics I have seen have almost all orange and look bland to me IMHO but some of the best ones (again IMHO) have the green and orange combo with silver/green polyps.

This is a pic of one that is local and recently sold for $450 at 8" x8" in less then 4 hours. This one has a bit more orange from the looks of it.

the sunset milli has already proven to hold its color in captivity. The ac piece may or may not hold it's color. My friend has the piece that came from aussie and it's nowhere near colorful as mine, his tank looks much better than mine though.

Yeah thats the thing will millepora's a true sunrise will keep its color others will turn depending on the the tank quality and lighting.

D&D states this about their maricultured corals. But I do see what you are saying completely.
Maricultured Corals are propagated overseas and grown out in shallow protected lagoons or in outdoor raceways using natural sunlight and ocean water. They have been held in our facility for two weeks to ensure they will maintain their color in captive conditions.

I almost bought this colony myself. Please keep us posted on how it dose.
Congrats on the sweet buy!

how does two weeks insure they will maintain colors?maybe 2 months but surely not two weeks.two weeks insures they dont RTN before they ship them out IMO.BTW my avatar is the ATL sunrise milli purchased from a friend who got it from atlantis a few years back pic taken under 6x39w t-5.

I certainly have to agree that 2 weeks is probably not really enough time plus different lighting and tank conditions can effect colors as well. I will say this about my tank and lighting. I bought a pink prostrata colony that was bround out and put it in my DT. It only took about 1 month and it was super uber pink. It is still the same super uber pink in the DT but when I put frags in my frag tank they tend to loose some of their pink. Not so much now, now that I have switched back to my 250w Hamilton 14k from a Phoenix 14k. The mother colony is under a 175w Ushio 14k and 3 VHO's. The mother colony was origionaly under a 250w Phoenix (browned out though) so I know the lighting was/is the issue for it's color. Since reds, pinks, yellows, and oranges tend to be higher up in the reefs (just what I have read not expirienced) I would think that my lighting should either bring out more orange or keep it the same.

This pic does not due it justice but you can see how pink it is non the less. This is just with a cheap point and shoot.
