Minh's Purple S. gigantea

minh, you certainly helped pave the way for all of us to have more success with these anemones, thanks for your dedication.

Yesterday, I moved my Purple Gigantea to the larger holding tank (100 g cube) together with my Multicolor Gigantea. He was in my tiny 30 g cube for over 1 year. I have to refrain from feeding him to keep him small. He started out larger than the other anemones but is smaller now. Never fear, I just feed him a lot and he will catch up quickly.
Here is a picture of both anemone with my T. gigas in the back ground. This tank hold these three animals and just a few frags until their permanent home ready.

Here he is today. This guy is exploding. I am feeding them both to try and see if I can get them to spawn. They are at lest 18 inches across. The yellow, light green with other multicolor tentacles measued at 18 inches with one side cramped up. Fully spread out he is likely to reach 24 inches. Growing fast with a lot of new tentacles.
The tank is 30 inches wide. Full picture of the tank to show the true size of this anemone.

wow.... simply beautiful, and if you end up having babies... Put me in line!!!

On many occasions, I have clams in contact with various anemones including Haddoni without problem. So much so that I consider clams impervious to stings of anemones. I find out today that this is definitely not the case. I am coming home today from work, getting ready to get out of town to war of the Giants. Gigantea versus Gigas. We have to postpone out trip to AM tomorrow instead of tonight. The Gigantea anemone sting the heck out of my Gigas.
Both of my rare large animals that I cannot loose. I have to juggle around to separate the two. Hope this change will not cause the Gigantea to wander.

Wow... Glad you found it now and not when you got home to more damage! My Wife would kill me to delay a vacation departure on my reef... Good luck, keep us updated and enjoy your vacation.

Minh, I have a large gigas similar to yours. Mine got stung by a hammer coral that was a little too close. It fully recovered, but it seems even some LPS can irritate a gigas.

Beautiful collection BTW! Love the multicolor gig!

This AM the Gigas was a lot better. I think he will be completely recovered by the time we get home on Sunday

I removed the Gigas to another tank that connected to the same system. He expanded like normal today when we got home. There were some sting marks still, discoloration of the mantel but the clam does not appear to be irritated.

Here are two of my Gigantea. The Multicolored, but mostly green, is 21 inches just as I measure when I took the picture below. The Purple one is not that much smaller. I have been feeding them every other day and they just exploded.

I got this new Purple Gigantea from a friend. In my tank for several weeks. I also got a yellow tipped Magnifica at the same time. I think the light there was not the best. i hope the Magnifica will color up. He have a tan column with a hint of purple, and yellow tipped tentacles. Below are the two pictures of them, and a picture of the underside of my yellow-green Gigantea
