Minh's Purple S. gigantea

Conrad25,
Very nice. did you sell the Gig or another Magnifica you got from before?

About my anemone, I did not like the position of the anemone, on a vertical wall and essentially oral plate is vertical. It is difficult to give adequate light and adequate flow to all area of the anemone. I was not able to turn the rock without likely cause injury to the anemone.
I though about the for a long time and this AM I rearrange the rock work and place the flat slap of rock with the anemone face up. I hope he will move over the next few days to a more natural horizontal position. We will see.

I sold my purple/green tipped magnifica to get the newer green one I have now. I still have my purple S. Gig as thats my pride and joy and is never leaving unless I'm done with the hobby or something which I doubt will ever happen. I do want to find another S. gig eventually thats blue. But its so rare to see these great nems

The two host anemone species that reproduce with internal fertilization and release fully form larvae are S. gigantea and H. malu. I got two Malu that are doing well. One is a male and the other is of unknow sex. Hope to end up with two or three Gigantea in the future. I think we may be able to sexually reproduce them in aquariums. It would be so great and exciting if this happen

Well I rearrange the aqua scape again. Here is a picture of the full tank. He should be happy there. Good light, good flow and the foot is hidden in a crevice. Now only if he cooperate an stay put. The tank is still cloudy. I have the MP10 set on random flow reef-crest at 100%. My tank have a mixture of fine sand and coarser crushed corals. I will need to see how things settle down and maybe cover the top with a very coarse layer of sand to keep things from blowing around too much.

My anemone have been with me for 8 days at this time. Never seen him deflated. I am happy and think that he is going to do well. I fed him start the 4th day. Fed for 2 days then skip one day and then yesterday and today. I will feed him again tomorrow.

The anemone is a lot better and with longer tentacles than when I first got him home. Color is better with regain of the yellow/brown. He seem a lot stiffer and larger also. Some area his tentacles are blue and most of the other area they are purple. Here is an update picture of the tank. Sorry it is still cloudy.

God (one of the reefer here not the man upstairs), BTW, I got the MP10 covered but took it off when I rearrange to wash it and have not put it back on yet.

I see that you did not put the foam cover over your mp10.. if you are leaving i HIGHLY recommend you do so. i believe d-nak or bonsai just had one of their gigs pulled into their vortech.

Yes, that was me. I fed the gig heavily after it happened. It's now fully recovered and is larger than it was prior to the accident.

My suggestion is to keep spare covers on hand. When one gets dirty, I quickly replace it with a clean one. When they get dirty they do restrict flow.

I replaced the cover on the MP10. I just change the picture on my server since the other pictures was cloudy anyway. I am happy with the aqua-scape and the position of the anemone. Now only he cooperates and stay put. Got a few clams and SPS and Xenia from my other tanks to keep him company.

The anemone is looking better, eating well, not moving and overall getting darker even in the last few days. Picture as is today. More pictures once he is significantly change.

Nice Gig :) looks promising, isnt severely bleached like mine was, im sure your's will enjoy its new home :) just make sure you take great care of it !! they are too gorgeous of an animal to not give it the highest grade of care. . . haha :)

I was gone for 9 days, got back in town today. The tank looks OK except there are a lot of algae on the glass and the cover for the MP10 was all clogged up. The anemone was still at the exact same place I put him. I guess that is a good thing. His mouth is a little open about 1/4 inch or so. The was a partially decomposed roach stuck to the MP10 cover. I removed the roach but some of the legs float off and the anemone got hold of a leg or two. Hopefully eating this will not get him sick.
I clean up the tank and change 6 gallons out of 30.
After the dust settle, this is pictures from today. The anemone regain all the zooxanthellae and is golden color with purple/blueish tentacle tips. Attached are two pictures today. I think he is doing well under my care for the last 2 weeks or so.

The white balance got out of whack on my camera. The full picture is the one with true coloration of the anemone.

Its looking good :), and good sign if it stayed put for the 9 days while you were gone, haha bet those 9 days u were gone where pretty stressful for ya knowing you had a semi-new gig sitting in your tank that may up and walk around haha..

i know everytime i get stuck on stormwork for work, and im gone for a whole week, its all i can think about is my gig's haha

You got that right....Brother

3 weeks update.

I got tired of having sand blowing around with my MP10 so I added a layer of shell I got from Corpus Christi Bay. After I washed it in water of course. I also added my 8 years old Onyx Percula. and a few snails to clean the glass. Water change Sunday really keep the algae from growing since I don't have any fish in the tank thus not feeding it until just added the clowns. Here are two pictures from tonight.
I plan to feed the anemone every other day about 1.5-2 cc of shrimp or fish or what ever seafood I got. He is getting darker and the tentacles are definitely getting longer.

Thanks Patrick.
Moving disrupted the Onyx spawn pasterns. 2 days was not long enough for her to select a site to spawn so she broadcast spawn last night. This AM there were eggs everywhere in the tank. Here is a picture of one on the shell on the substrate.

I am worry about my Gigantea. Almost 4 weeks in my tank and he still have a open mouth. The mouth often open to about 1 cm2 and I can see the structures of the tissue in it. Often it have very thin lips of a sick anemone, not the fleshy full lip that is close of a healthy anemone. He still eat, and I have not see him deflated. He is a little smaller at night but not deflated at . Still I am worry due to the mouth. Below is a picture of the mouth this AM. I fed him earlier this morning and the mouth seem a little better than the norm over the last week.

Looks normal. Mine sometimes looks similar.

I think any gig that's eating is generally a good sign.

Yours looks healthy, just keep feeding.

Good luck with it.

There are somedays...where my S. Gig's mouth will be slightly open for a bit... worries me everytime i see it, but it'll close back up and what not

i think yours is fine, it has a sturdy stance, looks good healthy...

i wanna say when i first got Big Ole' Purple, it took him about 3 weeks for the mouth to fully close... i was definantly getting nervous
