Mini Bubble King 180

Hello,

I bought a used system that had never been used. It had been filled with water but not stocked, and then left.

I finally got around to cleaning up all the salt deposits, and film on everything.

When I went to try out the skimmer, mini bubble king 180, it would sometimes start for .5 seconds, then just sit there locked rotor. I took it apart and cleaned it, it had mild buildup on the rotor bearing, but not seized at all. I put it back together and still nothing.

Based on another thread it would seem I need a new motor block.

Any other tips, and or please link to the part I need.

I assume you removed the bearing from the base of the block and cleaned it before putting the pump back together? Did you also inspect the end of the impeller shaft where it goes into bearing to make sure it was clean and smooth. A good test is the slip the bearing over the end of the shaft and rotate it to make sure there is no friction between the bearing and the shaft. Also, it's important that the bearing be inserted properly into the motorblock before putting the impeller back into the block.

Yeah everything was fine between bearing and shaft. I guess my good deal was too good.

Wow.. You really did go through that thread! Thanks very much for the kind thoughts. Yea, all is well now with the tank family and tank! Funny thing is that after the bleach incident, the tank really rebounded fast and the corals ended up growing better than ever. I had jokingly said that the bleach might might have been a blessing in disguise. Now I see people on other forums dosing bleach for various reasons.

Back on topic. Sorry to hear about the block. The blocks are reasonably priced and when the pumps are properly maintained, they can last 10 years or more. These really are excellent pumps and skimmers. Once you get the replacement block, try to take it apart and clean it ever 4-5 months. If you do that, the pump will provide you many many many years of faithful, reliable silent service!
