Minimalistic multichip DIY LED build

So, I'm thinking, start with their 7X driver board, and use the 6 channels for the pucks (in series so I can dim each channel across all three at once), and control with the 7chv1.0 wireless controller. What do you guys recommend for a power supply, Bearing expandability in mind. Also, would it be possible to use the 7th channel to power the fans?

I'm sorry, but 7chv1.0 controller can't control of the fan. We think good LED fixture should not have a fan. However, our TrueSpectrum controller will have a ability to control fan. We will introduce standalone version of the TrueSpectrum in January 2015.

We think good LED fixture should not have a fan

Personally i wouldn't build one without, in a critical role like lights for a reef. Design it so it doesn't need it, but then add one with temperature control. Same sort of theory as home insurance or airbags in your car. You don't want to use it, but better to have it anyway, just in case

Thanks for your response! I'll check out your forum. I'm intrigued by your True Spectrum controller, for sure, though I have plans to incorporate a Reef controller, liken the Reef Angel at some stage to bring everything together.

I install for my tank led multichip lamp. 3 x 50W 20000K, 3 x 50W Blue (all leds dimm)
Befor I have 3 x 10000K and i change for 20000K but i think is the same colour for me.
For me at the moment is too White and I wondering how to add more blue.

Change 3 x 50W Blue for 3 x 100W blue ?? What are You think ?

I was looking through Aliexpress today, checking out the Lumia 5.1 chips and I noticed something new. They seem to be selling them mounted on a heatsink with optics etc but with a screw base like a light bulb.. It says they are dimmable still but I Imagine you would be controlling it as one channel...

As typical of Aliexpress, they offer almost no information.. Seems you loose the primary benefit of a 5 channel chip, but I guess if you were Ok with running all channels together, and just dimming it, this would be a easy diy... Any opinions?

Actually looked closer at the specs and they're saying it's not dimmable. Great retrofit to an old mogul MH pension even if you want to use E26/E27 base residential pendant or light fixtures.

That's pretty cool! Granted, I am always suspicious of cheaper LED lighting, but honestly if it was verified that these lights were actually decent I would even consider trying it out.

It says that each channel can be individually dimmed, but I haven't a clue how that could happen.

That's the standard description for the lumia 5.1 they list I think. Then the specs for the item also say "nondimmable".. A bit inconsistent.. This seller is selling the real lumia 5.1 chips, however. They have chip alone listed at 38 bucks roughly, which is half what ledgroupbuy sells them for. Even non dimmable, if you were looking for cheap lights for a frag tank or something like that, it doesn't get much easier ..

I wish ... Haven't found any yet, and I've been searching. What do you think about running these light bulb style setups? There's tons of options for housings and fixtures based on the E26/E27 base. I'm betting these can come dimmable if requested too. There are similar ones using just blue and white in 50 and 100w as well. I even saw a version with wireless dimming.

They look like you said...would be easy setup over frag tank,...in the pic they don't look bad at all aesthetically...cost is ok since you don't need a bunch of parts for a diy build. From what I have read the 5.2 is a big improvement vs the 5.1 if you can find or ask the seller if they can provide the same E26/27 base bulb with 5.2's let me know. Happy hunting

Have them add wireless remote control dimming of all 5 channels and they'd have a winner. There's other E26/27 based lamps already on the market that have that capability.

They actually have another model listed with that. I just emailed them today asking about doing that. They sell the Rf units for around 60 bucks too.

according to your link:

Each channel is individually addressable (they can be individually dimmed) so you can adjust the perfect color for your tank.

I don't see how they could dim individual channels on an Einstein base unless they have wireless capabilities. If you look under Item Specifics, it's listed as non dimmable. I'm still waiting for a response. I looked through more of their products and they have another similar setup but with 100w Orphek multichip. They claim to be the manufacturer of OrpheK. They also have Orphek Pr72 dimmable pendants listed for 205 here, http://m.aliexpress.com/item/1506406517.html. I haven't heard much about orphek, but way back in this thread Mr. Wilson mentioned that he used them in is diy pendants over his frag tanks.. If that is the same establishment I'm thinking of in Burlington Ontario, they look pretty fantastic over the frag tanks. Actually have some frags acclimating under my t5s that are looking pretty blah compared to how they looked under their lights.

Exactly...do they tell you which optic comes with the light or can you choose the degree (60-90-120) you want on them?

Actually you can choose. That was going to be my next question here. What do you recommend? There will be 3 of these suspended over a 72x18x22 tank. Especially if it's non dimmable, I don't want to go too focused. The tank has 2 cross braces which make the openings 16x22 at the top. I can go up to probably 10 or 11 inches max off the surface because of ceiling height. I want a focused enough beam to minimize spillage, but not so much that I bleach everything.. I was thinking 90.. Advice?
