Miracle Mud?

Has anyone here ever used miracle mud before? I know its been around for ever but I was reading this magazine that featured a tank that was using the product. I'm not interested in using the the whole method (I like my skimmer), I'm just thinking about the mud. Thanks

I met Seng Lee and I asked him about the use of protein skimmers. He told me that you should put it on a timer for a few hours a day. I think he recommended 5 hours a day. I have read a lot about Miracle mud. Both the good and the bad. Although it is very expensive I recommend it. My LFS has several tanks set up with the mud that they use for sick fish that costumers bring in. The sick fish seem to do better in the mud tank than they do in the medicated tanks.

I wouldn't use it in a reef tank - I don't see the point. :D But, I do use muds as a burrowing substrate in cephalopod tanks. When you initially add it, it really fouls the water.

abxnightpilot,
Could you elaborate on how the fish 'seem' to do better in the mud tank?

I understood that it makes a great substrate for caulurpa (I know caulurpa grows anywhere), used as a home for many types of micro fauna and its suppose to encourage other biodiversity in the main tank as well. It sounds like it was made by magic folk in an enchanted forrest. Too good to be true? Figures.

It is a good substrate for burrowing things, and prolly good for caulurpa (though check legalities if this is for the store), but I have no idea how it would encourage biodiversity in the main tank if it isn't in the main tank. :D

Its not for the store, its for me. As far as improving biodiversity in the main tank, I think this is a result of the favorable living conditions in the fuge. Was 'plankton sheer' your concern? Thanks
