Miro-4 2 bulb T5 kit

Anyone use one of these in a canopy? If so did you leave the bare bulbs exposed or did you insulate them from the water? I'm concerned about accidentally breaking a bulb into the water.

Here is mine

They're more durable than you think. I'd be most worried about a fish jumping up and breaking one. Do you have any top on the tank itself, between the water & bulbs?

Sorry guys,Just seen this,Nothing but air and water. Its been almost a yr now.If im not mistaken, most people do this with them. Please,if anyone has had a problem, speak up.
Keep in mind they are 6 to 7" off the water.

Could either go with a clear mesh screen top, or check out eplastics and make some sort of splash shield for the light.

Thanks, very good suggestion. I'd have to figure out a way for it to cover the T5s up but not the Radions. Don't want anything covering the rest of the tank, just cover the bulbs.

I also wonder how hot these things get mounted on the wood canopy. I guess I'll find out.

You have a pic of how I mounted mine in the 1st post. You can see my hydras in the middle. I made a nice hanging frame around them.My canopy is completely closed except the back.It runs very cool in the canopy. No fans other then whts in the hydras.

Why did you build the hanging frame and not mount them direct to the canopy? No problems with the heat from the bulbs on the wood?

The kit comes with 4 metal clips. I assume the clips are for snapping in the T5 bulbs towards the middle. Did you use those?

Hey John,
I installed the LET miro-4 kits in my canopy to supplement my LEDs alittle over a year ago. I mounted then to some 1"x2"s (wood) which I screwed into the top of the canopy. I have had no issues with heat from the bulbs in the wood.
I believe the 4 metal clips you are referring to are the clips used to attach the reflectors to the bulb.

DDon, ReefTankHunter, Kyuss and anyone else supplementing LEDs with T5s. Is it worth it? Have you noticed an improvement in growth and coloration of your corals?

I didnt want the t5s 12" off the water, thats why i built the frame. Also its like a fixture ,I can take out.Yes I used the standoff ends, and used the clips for the reflectors.
And yes, its worth installing.Keep in mind ,Im doing mostly acros. Working getting the colors right.Growth is good.
