Missing my maroon Francois!!

Frank and beans

New member
Hi there! I last saw him yesterday am, Thursday, and now Friday afternoon, there's no trace at all! I checked all over floors, walls and I have no pets. There's no spike in any levels and other fish are fine. Could my CUC take care of him so quickly? Wouldn't there be bones? Ugh! I don't want to poke or lift anything because I have a sand bottom. He was an aggressive clown too but he had his own area/house. He was 3" too so pretty sizeable. Thanks all for any replies/advice! This is my first loss but I know missing fish happen often as I've read.

Welcome to Reef Central!

If you have no cover and there are no remains in the tank to find my bet would be that he jumped. Don't just look directly around the tank. Fish can flop and move quite a bit on dry land. I would look especially under furniture and in vents (if you have those on the ground).

They never just disappear. Either they jump out and you just don't find them until years later or they got stuck somewhere in the rocks and got eaten up by the crabs and worms in the tank.

a clean up crew will have no problem getting rid of the evidence

You may always find some bones. Also if you look the day he disappeared you should notice the large pile-up of clean up crew in one location - always a clear indicator that there is a dead body to feast on.
