mitch's B/W & O/W breeding clownfish thread

day 8 and expecting hatch tonight. I built a larvae catcher based on sprockett's design, Thanks for the detailed instructions by the way. I made one modification that I hope will work. I used pvc rather than a 2 liter, and drilled it so i could suspend the pumping apparatus above the bottom rather than siliconing it down. lights just went out so i guess i will know in an hour or so.

I swear these eggs don't look any different today than yesterday. Night #9, so I'm really hoping they hatch. The female's belly is already bulging with the next brood of eggs, so I would like to have at least a few days to position the tile and let them get used to it. I guess I'm going to have to crank up the heat. I at 76 npw, I think I'll bump it up to 80 if I can get there without having to buy another heater!!

The larvae look good.I have been told from a few people that the temp should be at 82.A little high for a reef but from what I've been told any lower than that will delay the hatch.Keep in mind this is only the second time I've tried to raise clowns so I'm by NO means an expert.Nice snagger by the way.

They will hatch just after lights out so i hope you got them last night if not then be ready when you turn the lights off tonight.

day 10. Tonight's got to be the night. I just bought a second heater, time to get the temp up a little. the males looking ragged and the female looks ready to lay again already!

day 10 no hatch. day 11 they need to hatch tonight or I think the male may not be able to keep up with another clutch. I bumped up the temp to around 80 today, so we'll see.

how absolutely great your pictures are!!!! love to see their eyes and yolk sacks ready to go... hope they hatch and that you are able to collect them easily.... you may want to put a shell by where they laid the eggs and keep your fingers crossed they will lay on it for easier retrieval. it was strange our bi-racial clown's last batch didn't hatch at all. they just layed another clutch a couple of days ago (clutch 11) and we will see how they fair. out of the 10 laid, we basically have only successfully been able to raise 2 clutches to little fryers. good luck!

Any luck with the hatch yet. Thanks again for the tips on the rots. From what I started with yesterday I can already see a difference.

have been following your thread and wishing you all the best... very exciting and also hard. did your eggs hatch? we had that problem with our last clutch - hopefully this current one be a problem. it definitely takes patience, perservance but is worth it!

your amazing pics inspired me to up my game and get a 100 macro lens and took some pics of our bi-racial clown babies approx 2 months old --- have lots to learn to get them as amazing as your, but its a start... hopefully you will enjoy them and be encouraged. also, have posted our journey and lessons learned. good luck with everything and keep posting your gorgeous pictures!!! have posted them on our thread:

Well...... About half the nest hatched last night and the fry catcher worked great. Heavy losses though. This morning I was down to maybe 10 from the original 100 or so. IDK why, but I'm not sweating it as I feel I did everything the best I could. The long incubation may have weakened the larvae, or I might have just messed something up. Not really sure whther I'm going to try and catch the rest tonight. I have a really hard day at work tommorow, so we'll see. Anyway here"s pics of the eggs at day 11 and what's left at day 12. Oh and a OK picture of one of the fry. I just took it and didn't want to go too crazy trying over and over to get a good one, so I just snapped one, and it is OK.

just finished collecting +/- 100 more larvae. Gonna keep them seperate from the firstbatch. These little guys seem to go through rots at an amazing speed, so if I can't keep up with their appetites, I will at least be able to keep the smaller batch alive. hopefully!

Good job.I didn't have nearly as many so I haven't had to worry about how I was going to keep up with the rots. Sounds like your going to be busy.
