Mixing Containers

What kind of container do you use for mixing saltwater?

For my nano, I use a 10 gallon rubbermaid storage bin. However, I'm going to be starting up the 90 gallon tank soon and will need to make up the initial fill and at least 20-25 gallons a week after that.

I helped some friends change out their tank and they had the big bins and we noticed that when filled more than half way, they started to bulge.

Would a barrel type be better?

Any tips/tricks would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Chris

I use a large 40G+ Brute can from Lowes. I use this for weekly 10% waterchanges on my 135G tank. For storage, I use sealed 5G water bottles.

i just use a couple of 5 gal buckets but mix multiple.

i know I'm gonna get alot of guff for this, here goes anyways. i posted a thread a while back about the proper way to mix salt water. somebody suggested to just use paint mixer attachment for a drill instead of mixing and waiting for prolonged periods of time. i decided that if that worked it would be the best way for me to do it so i did a couple of tests. i found that if the water is being mixed at the half way point of the bucket, as the salt is being slowly poured in, it mixes within 2 min. i mixed a bunch of ways and found to salinity difference with any period of time doing it this way. so the last water change i did(which was big because i had boughten contaminated rock:( , i mixed 25 gallons this way(for a 55 gallon tank) and never had a problem. i know its not proper but its something that worked for me and something you might try.

I would invest in a small water tank if you have room for it. You can buy your own RODI system and have the water flow into your tank. If not, 5 gallon containers or large trash cans are fine just make sure they are rated safe or food storage.
