I thought I would share this with you. I have a mixing drum which has been building up a brownish cement like material over the years, perhaps from the IO I had been using.
I have made many attempts to clean this out, and could never get rid of it.
I picked up some Sodium Percarbonate, (Proxycarb) and Citric Acid from a fellow reefer (name withheld so he does not get bombarded with requests) I was really hoping the Proxycarb was going to be my cure. His instructions where to put a cup of the proxycarb in the drum full of cold tap water and leave it for a couple hours, drain it and mix the citric acid as a rinse to neutralize the proxycarb afterward.
I mixed up the Proxycarb, and let it sit for a few hours, nothing was happening to the stuff on the side of the drum. Strange though, it turned to mush on the Kent float and I could rub it off with my hand.....
So, following my motto, "if a little is good, allot is better" I dumped the rest of the bag of Proxycarb in the drum and left it overnight.
Next day, nuttin', still like cement.
So I said to h_ll with it, and pumped it down the tub, filled the drum to the top with fresh water and dumped in the Citric Acid and went about my business. A few hours later, it was all gone, dissolved completely:rollface:
I put some power heads and stuff in the Citric Acid, that were coated with coraline algae and they came out spotless. Better than Vinegar, and easier than trying to fill the drum with it.
Both products are available from the Beverage People on Piner Road
$4.95 a pound.
I owe you a beer dude
