Mixing Perculas and Occelaris

Positive this has been covered , but I can never get the search feature to work... Mixing Percs , and Occelaris .... Who has had success and has anyone any advice on the subject?

i have a mixed pair... works out fine... they are soo similar its ridiculous...

get one significantly larger than the other, or both juvenile and they can sort it out themselves..

Yeah , thanks awesome... I did a ton of reading quite some time ago and seemed to remember that most cases it works out fine. just wanted to be sure. Had a single Occ. and saw a beautiful Black Perc. @ the LFS.

"Black Percula" are actually A. ocellaris. There are no completely black and white A. percula. The closest black A. percula I have seen is a picture of one with orange face but otherwise all black and white color.

Orion is correct.. so really you arent mixing any species here..

just be sure that it is a "Black Perc" aka. b&w ocellaris because a lot of LFS label small black var. Polymnus (saddleback) clowns as black percs... that would probably not be a good pair.. the saddleback would severely outgrow the ocellaris and is usually more of a "mean" fish... although ive seen stranger pairs, so you never know...

you could tell saddleback from black perc by the body shape and they usually have yellow on their fins if it is fairly young

and i have a pair of black / white ocellaris and the female of the 2 is completely black with no orange on her at all so thats not totally true also

black percula are normally Black saddleback clowns. not actually ocellaris or percula. all of the black percula i have seen wholesale and retail are saddleback clowns.

and as for black/white ocellaris i have one that is 100% black with no orange so the statement

Is always true yes there are some ocellaris that never loose the orange in the nose and mouth area but most do go completely black/white

There are two variety of clowns common know by LFS as Black Perks. These are black and white A. ocellaris or Black and white A. polymnus. There are no black and white A. percula.
