Mixing Reef Crystals

Update
I attempted to find out exactly how many gallons a RC 50 lb bag of salt would mix by calling the company that produces the salt. Yes I can do the math but I wanted the companies official answer. I also asked the production weight of the 50 lb bag. And yes I have weighed several and they vary by 1-2 lbs.
My questions were over the head of the customer service person. She promised to email an answer. I did get an answer but it did not address the 2 questions above. I re - asked again by email and never heard from them
I did talk with a Seachem rep. He gave me the answers. He did say Seachem also mixes to 1.022 specific gravity. The do have a new line of salt that does mix to 1.026 that is sold under another name exclusively through LFSs. I like the company but am leary of the inclusion of buffering agents.

Ok so i had a 50gal bag that was slightly opens and moisture got in. #1 it never dissolved fully#2 now that i have a new bag each cup is giving me a higher reading, alot higher deff enouph to make a diff. Just my experience

Too much moisture in salt mixes can allow calcium and magnesium carbonate to precipitate and they may not redissolve.

In such a situation, if you measure alkalinity after it is fully settled and alkalinity is OK, the salt is good to go. If alk is low, you might need to correct it and possibly check calcium. :)
