I have a 300g tank, my gsm is home in a rbta for about 3 yrs. I ve got plenty of room and would like to increase the population of both nems and clowns....but I would like something other than the gsm. Bottom line...can I do it and what would a good choice in species be. The gsm is rather large and can be a real #%&* !! Thanks for the help.

i say it can be done but others will disagree. I have a 210 with a pair of maroons 1 is gold striped the other is plain. I added a pair of sebaes and there was a little aggression but nothing to bad. just a chase to show that it was their part of the tank.

Also in my 125 i have 1 gsm and a pair of true percs.

Mixing a GSM w/ a WSM is fine as long as female accepts male, but more than likely they will become very territorial w/ any other type of clown.
You have a better chance of getting away w/ this in a 300g, but always a gamble.
In my 6' 180g my maroon pair(GSM/WSM) went back and forth across tank to both my host nems at each end.

Gold stripe/white stripe maroon is the same species, Premnas biaculeatus . Gold stripe maroons come from Sumatra. Pairing can be difficult, research techniques on pairing, the resident female can be brutal towards the newly introduced male.

You most likely know the answer already. You can try but be prepared to separate them or else loose the second set of clowns. You may loose one or both of the other clowns anyway. You may be successful but certainly not for sure. Sometime Maroon can drag other fish and feed them to the anemone. Start with immature Maroon will increase your change of success tremendously. If you have a mature female Maroon in the tank, I would advice against it. FWIW, I keep Maroon and Ocellaris together many years ago when I was a very newbie. It was not successful.

....I expect you are right....and the marroon is very large and hardy....and territorial, but Im not a clown expert, so I thought Id ask the question...thanks for the input.

I did the same combo many years ago, and thought I was having success until the fem maroon matured, and I came home to one dead occ, and another torn up hiding behind a PH w/ fem also torn up just waiting for him to come out.
It was all good for about 6mo, and this change happened over night.
