Mixing Wrasses

Thanks Brad! I have the spectrum pellets and sometimes give them as an additional treat. Should I add them in as part of their regular feedings?

As if it wasn't enough that our first (less than 6 month old) 300g Marineland tank's bottom seal ruptured, the new tank's custom overflow box separated from the silicone and glass all the way down the left side.

Needless to say, in order to repair it, the tank had to be drained and all of our livestock, rock and sand are in temporary vats in our garage.

If interested, here's a link to the details on our build thread:

Of course my new female/sub-adult Lineatus arrived on Friday. I chose to leave her in the acclimation box until after the tank was drained and all the fish were in the 180g Tuff Stuff vat. Thankfully, the two Lineatus Wrasses are getting along fine.

I was a bit worried when she showed up looking much more colorful than the male and is only about an inch smaller than him. She also arrived with a little damage to her mouth, but not as much as the male had when he got here. He has subsequently healed. She is eating well, so hopefully she will heal quickly too.

I would take a picture, but we had to put a double layer of bird netting over the vat so we don't have any jumpers.

We're planning to start the move back to the display tank on Saturday... wish us luck as we sure could use some right about now...

Hoping one of the wrasse experts will chime in...

All of our fish and corals survived the 6 days in vats and have been back in the dt for about a week and a half.

I finally got a chance to take a pic of the new Lineatus. I'm certainly no expert, but she sure looks like a male to me. She is now about a half inch smaller than our male and the only other difference I can see is that her colors are more vibrant w/more of a dark pink/red undertone to her.

So far there has been no aggression between the two. I'm wondering if this is a sub-adult male rather than a female. :hmm2:

No dout about it. Very nice male. You will have to watch the 2 of them close. Hopefully your tank is large enough for the 2 of them.

Thanks for the reply Brad!

I was hoping I was wrong. I'll definitely continue to keep an eye on them. With the way my luck has been going, I shouldn't be surprised that LA would send the wrong fish, sigh... :hmm2:

I guess the silver lining in all of this is maybe the overflow box fiasco caused enough upheaval and disruption that the first male never had a chance to stake out any territory before the 2nd was added.

I'd be afraid to add a female now... wouldn't want to upset the balance.

Looks male to me as well.

We got a "female" a while ago from DD that was not a female. We ended up with one left :(

Well if it makes you feel any better Mike, I've pretty much decided that buying females is just a waste of time. Everytime I buy a female, they end up turning male anyway.
I've been lucky so far with my 3 big male rhomboids. Used to be 2 females and 1 male.
But the three of them get along great. (So far)
I also bought a very young pair of Labouti's and both are now male. Those two have been at each other lately.
So now the only females I have are leopards and angels. (Cougars looking for young men) LOL

I love wrasses and I'm wanting to get a pair to add to my tank. I have a male McCorkers's Flasher wrasse and a female Carpenter flasher wrasse. Any suggestions?? I really like the some of the fairy wrasses but I was afraid that a male would fight with the male flasher I already have. I have a 90 gal. tank. Also, what is DD short for? Do you order alot of fish from them?

DD is LiveAquaria's Divers Den.
The best place to buy a fish online IMO. I'm sure you would be fine with a couple of the smaller fairy wrasses, like Solarensis or Lubbocks.

I am sorry to hear that and it is surprising that it happened with DD. :sad1: I am hoping since we do have a fairly good sized tank w/lots of swimming room and hiding spots that they will be able to coexist peacefully. If not, we'll have to try and trap one of them and move him to another tank.

I should have notified LA about the mistake with ours, but we had so much going on prep'ing to drain our dt and setting up temporary vats for our corals, fish, rock and sand, that there just was no time to deal with it.

Brad, that does make me feel a little better, lol. Gives me some hope that the two Lineatus males may be able to peacefully co-exist.

Bahahaaaaaaah

I'm hoping my two Macropharyngodon bipartitus females don't decide to change. I don't think my male would be tolerant at all.

This little guy is adorable and already a camera hog, LOL. He is chillin in the acclimation chamber and eating like a pig. :D
