MJ mod users in sps tanks

1. How many do you have in your tank?
2x Mj1200 One with Dumas 3004 prop and the other w/ 1435 prop
2. And how do you like them?
There great, sometimes a little finicky but usually no problems
3. Do they have alot of flow?
Awesome flow and Im running a SSB
4. Also please post the size of your tank.
125g (6'L)

Not sure if you'd like flow pic, mod pic, etc but how about a flow video and a tank pic showing modded MJs?

Hi 120: hum, I can't quite picture what you're describing. Even though you cut off the nozzle from the impeller cover, there's still just a hole approx the size of the nozzle on one side of the impeller cover, so I'm not sure how it could hit behind the pump on the glass, assuming the hole is pointing towards the middle of the tank.

Here's a link to a post where the author has a short video of the mod in action: http://www.michiganreefers.com/forums/showpost.php?p=202970&postcount=1

I'm going to give it a try myself since I have 2 extra impeller covers...nothing to loose since I'm not using them anyways. Maybe once I do it, I'll find out what you're referring to...

Thanks,

rob

Sorry kinda hard to explain...If you have the hole shooting to the center of the tank, sometimes it would spray straight then sometimes when it switches direction it would spray 90 degrees to the right or left which ments it was just hitting the wall doing nothing. I guess if you do it right you have to find a perfect direction...

imo its still to direct of flow, i like the dispersed flow from the mjmod.

That video is interesting it seems he set it up differently and mounted it on the side of the maxi to fix that direction problem

1. How many do you have in your tank?
2x Mj1200 modded Both with Dumas 3004 prop, kit from mjmods.com 2 unmodded mj1200, 1 seio 1500

2. And how do you like them?
I agree with Syris "There great, sometimes a little finicky but usually no problems "

3. Do they have alot of flow?
Amazing flow, alot more than i would have thought gonna add 2 more soon.

4. Also please post the size of your tank.
120g barebottom

I am surprised that this mod turns a MJ-1200 with 295Gph to 2000Gph (? is it really true).

Does it work on MJ-1000 as well?

I have a tank with 24"L x 18"W x 22"H, and currently I have 1 MJ-1200 and 2 MJ-1000's. Do you think whether I should install any mods in my tank, and if so, how many mods I should install?

Thanks in advance.

achung, why are you suprised? An 8w tunze spinning a small prop can move 1800gph. Why shouldnt a Maxijet 1200 running at 20w be able to move 2500? Theres nothing intriniscally special about the stream other than that its the only prop pump out there. (and theyre very well made)

i was a bit suprised to but just like RichConley said you take that pos direct stream they have on there and use the power they have with a prop and your going to push alot more water in a more dispersed fashion:)

Here is my video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J0efcskeuJg<object

I have 3 MJ1200s. In this video I only had 2. I replaced the MJ900 on the back wall with another Maxistream1200.

I love them but sometimes they are a little trouble. I don't think I have the design completely perfect.

I have a 180 mixed (slowly becoming SPS dominated) tank. I have more SPS since this video. I noticed much better PE since I upgraded the flow.

My next question is that whether the stream created by MJ mod is as strong as Tunze streams, or it is softer just like SEIO.

The reason I asked this question is that I owned a 36" tank before, when I ran 2 Tunze 6000's in it, I have to minimize the stream strength using multiple controller to 2300 Gph otherwise I will get sandstorm.

Now I am running a 24" tank and I have 1 MJ-1200 and 2 MJ-1000's. If I changed one of the pump to MJ mod, whether it will result in sandstorm again as it will become a 2000 Gph stream?

The reason the Seios are weaker streams is because they put out less water. My Seio820 has the same size nozzle as my Tunze6060, yet the tunze moves twice as much water, so it is more of a jet. IF you want more dispersed flow from a maximod, just increase the diameter of the output, and use a shorter shroud.

Anyone running the mods on a wavemaker? I have two running on a 40 breeder and I would love to get a back and forth wave action. The flow is great, but controlability is the big thing the mods lack compared to tunzes.

BTW I would recommend the 1435 octura props for people starting out with this mod. It still puts out a lot of flow, but is much more reliable than the larger props if your mod isn't perfectly aligned.
