NEEDS TO GET BIGGER AND BETTER!

I demand it!

I hope we can just get some more discussion and activity amongst the MN reefers.

I would love to have a group to interact, trade, or just meet and grow our reefs bigger and better. I know there are more of you out there, we just need to become organized and enthusiastic about building a reef infrastructure, because with everything going on with the ocean, who knows how long natural reefs will be around. They were already dying slowly, now they're threatened even more.

I had this thought right before bed last night, that even if the entire ocean dies (hopefully not) that we would still have a significant collection of reefs to one day rebuild and replenish what we've taken from it. A morbid, yet beautiful thought. I only hope to help encourage others to become active in this group, to start talking to others in the main boards, who are in the area, to come here and help network and grow this club just like a reef itself.

I'm new to the hobby, but I plan on contributing as much as I can and I will start posting more here and try to get things started.

Here's a pic I took a couple weeks ago of some of the first life to appear on my reef: Say hello to Octocoral.

I still would like for more people to contribute to this board, however.

It's a bigger site and would probably catch more people, getting into the obsession, in the MN area.

I'm thoroughly surprised at how small the reef community is here in MN. Even with everyone on those sites, it still isn't enough IMO.

I don't mean to sort of steal people from those sites, but grow and attract new people here.

There is well over 1000 members on tcmas. It has been established for a couple of years now, and the majority of people came from a competing reef forum site.

Interesting.

Didn't seem like there was that many people. Are there really a thousand active people?

Anyways, I still hope to attract people to this board, for many reasons. I have some things cooking up and will hopefully be able to get more people interested in becoming better at networking and building a more structured place for people to be able to find and contribute to.

Also, it's great that people get together, but I saw that the last gathering was in Bemidji, which is way too far north for most people to reasonably travel. We should have centralized gatherings, so everyone can participate.

Let's hope the future holds a great deal more for the MN reef society!

As I said, bigger and better.

The last time I looked, there was over 1300 registered. We hold meets 2x times per month, and have 2 frag swaps per year, with the last one happening last month, all of which happen in the Mpls/St. Paul area, much more central for everyone!

I wish you luck in getting more people onto this board

Oh, I thought it was just annual and didn't know you ever met in the twin cites. I guess I should have read a bit more. That's great news.

Yeah, I just want to help build it and as I said, I have some things cooking up and will reveal them when they are good and ready.

You said "all of which happen in the mpls/st. paul area" but wasn't the last frag swap in Bemidji?

The Bemidji crowd hosts their own, the Mpls/St. Paul crowd hosts their own. The last one that was in the cities was in April in Fridley, there will be another one in the fall, probably October/November

There is a meeting on Sat. May 22nd, in Inver Grove Heights, and the next one is on June 5th in Coon Rapids.
