glass-box, do you have a build thread? I'm REALLY excited about your build. I think it may be one of my favorites on RC :)

Tbone,

Thanks for the kind words. We are very excited as well. As of now, we do not have a build thread.... but as things come together they will be documented on our blog.

Right now, we are just waiting on the stand which has taken over 8 weeks (which is not the one shown in this thread)....it is a simple white box (no doors) with a recessed lower lip.

justin,

we have the 150w par spots, not the smaller 24 watters (still need to get my hands on those :D ) they focus the light better than a normal halide, but I'm looking for more of a pin spot halide to really highlight certain areas.

Thats what Im looking for too. I have a DIY 250W pendant that I modified to get a bit closer to a spotlight but its nowhere close to what I want. And its in my canopy and I want to loose that.

What I have done though is modify the pendant so that it is mounted in the top left side of the canopy and shines light from left to right diagonally across the tank instead of down...I wanted a more natural look with lots of shadows. Its turned out pretty cool actually because the light is so intense on the left side but fades away to darkness once you get about 5 1/2 feet across the tank. The darker side of the tank has an incredible shimmer now and is all just an open sandy area with a few rocks. Not sure if that makes sense at all but I think spotlights would work even better and I could mount them on the ceiling instead of in a canopy.

E&F,

ahh.. I love the idea of a low reef tank. It is almost as if you read my mind every time...

im at work and cant repost the image but check out the one here, plus i know you love hairpin legs ;)

other designs

Justin,

That sounds pretty cool. You may want to look at lenses to really focus the light tightly.

What kind of lense are you talking about?

I will post a pic later of how the tank looks with this lighting...I really should be working right now. :)

You would have to fabricate it yourself, but there are many lenses made. A simple PAR can focus lense in front of the bulb would help for a tighter and cleaner beam.

Will, you've got mail. We must chat this weekend

Wow...gold curtains is all I could look at in that one pic. That was after I managed to get past the creepy statues :/

Who makes that wall mount?

lol, the picture right afterwords has yellow walls and a tan tile floor.

I wonder which pic is the before and which is after????

or are those 2 unrelated photos? only difference I see in the tank is the weird 2 little windows on the bottom.

Awesome tanks. I love the more modern look. I think this hobby is definitely heading in the right direction.

Here is my tank right after I finished building it. Still a lot of work to do but I hope to make it look as modern as the examples in this thread.

Nice tank. What is that acrylic lip for? It looks like it's just placed on top of the tank? And it looks warped?

My aquascaping certainly does not fit in minimalism criteria, but the tank design is much more contemporary than average...

OK, that is amazing. It's exactly what I think this thread is about. Not only is the tank perfectly integrated into it's environment, but the aquasculpture and biomass are exactly in tune with the overall design.

I agree about the tank being integrated and beautiful.

Its not "exactly what this thread is about" though since its not really that much of a modern design.
