My 5" Peacock mantis has just blcoked the entrance of his den and is just hiding ther, not eating food or coming out. I've looked at a couple threads and I'm thinking that he's molting. I've had him for about 1 month.

Thanks in advance

that would be my guess also, when my emerald molted it went to the back of the tank and didnt come out for three days, the same thing with my cleaner shrimp

Heres a pic of my Peacocks molt. He never closed his den and I had no idea until I came home from work and found the molt. After it molted, it took over a week for it to come out and be active again, but did eat ok.

Hercules reopened his tank the next day he closed it. It pretty much clear that he changed color - his front legs (not his appendeges) turned a purplish - redish, instead of the red it once was, and the raptorial appendeges look sort of whitish with brown spots, instead of the yellow. Also his back looks more greener and more lighter , but I don't see his molt.

Is there an explanation for this? - did he eat his molt, or maybe its hidden sumwhere and i can't find it.

Thanks

Now I know what happened.

When I was feeding herc, i saw that he had sumthing in his claws that he was eating. Soon I found out that this was the remainder of his molt that he hadn't eaten yet. It was pretty cool, but I was looking forward to freakin ppl. out with his molt. LoL
