what color they should be right?
p-39434-foxface.jpg

current fish list
4 chromis
1 purple tang
1 foxface
2 clarkii clowns

tank
90ish gal (60x18x18)
110lbs rock +30 in sump

He's not happy. They have the ability to alter their skin colours depending on their mood. There may not be anything wrong other that he isn't comfortable with his situation yet.

how is the purple tang? any issues between the two? the foxface looks stressed. did it look like this when you bought it? how's it eating?

the purple tang and the foxface just do their own things rarely together the first night the foxface put him in his place but that was like 5months ago no issues since.....he eats like a absolute pig....will even take food for my hand...

He is stressed or the water quality is off.
Since your other fish, and corals are fine. I would guess stress.

Good luck catching him. They are the fastest fish I have ever had to catch.

I have one that eats like a pig. Go ahead and soak some pellets in garlic juice. (just buy a jar of minced garlic from Kroger and use couple of drops). His color will come back in a day.

hope it helps,
Marian

you know i finally put 2 +2 together....im pretty sure i think i know whats stressing him out...i watched it tonight....and my water qual is ok..its not super duper but i do run a phosban and gac so its improved 10fold.....

anywho what does everyone think i have 2 1year old puppies they go running alot through out the house and the tank is in the family room, could the dogs running around cause problems?

I have had mine for about 4 months; he only changed color for about the first week (other than at night when he's sleeping). The yellow tang has been with him for two weeks. They seem to bother each other a little he pokes he's spines out, and the tangs tries to spar him. But he never changes colors, nor do either of them show any signs of injuries, maybe it's all for fun?

Yeah it could be the high activity level around the tank. Gotta say that's the longest I've ever heard of one holding stress colors. Does he have a cave or somewhere to hide in the tank?

I also have two labs and two kids (1 & 3) they are always running around screaming, barking with no effect on the foxface.

its def not a fiji, the color isnt purpley at all

as for it being a magnif, unless its some sort of hybrid you can see the spot infront of the tail so def a onespot foxface i was looking through some old pics found this one

still thats very dull it seems and thats not a great representation of his color 95% of the time....i feed nori every other day and i have nori blended up in my fishfood sanjay mix

I am having the EXACT same problem with mine. Mine hasn't been in the tank as long (about 2.5 weeks) but he has NOWHERE near as brilliant colors as he did when I bought him. I have tested everything I have kit for and everything is perfect. I don't see any of the other fish bothering him so I am stumped. He was a very bright yellow when I got him now just his lower half is yellow and the top half is kind of a brownish color. He eats EVERYTHING I put in the tank so I don't think thats it. I am stumped too.

mine took about 4 months before it started to show that coloration. They are very skiddish at first ESPECIALLY to things happening around the tank.

Have you tried standing REALLY far away from the tank and seeing what his coloration is?

I had one that was fairly bright in the store. But when I added him to my tank he was a pale yellow. Once in a while he would get brighter, but most of the time he was a pale yellow. He didn't look like your first pic (stressed look), but like the other pics. He appeared comfortable in my tank, because he would come right up to my hand when I put in the nori. He did eventually died after about 6 months or so. One day he just stopped eatting. A few days later, he was stuck to the overflow and the next day he was dead. I would just keep an eye on him and try to make sure he's eatting well.

I have watched mine from the couch on the other side of the room and he doesn't seem bothered, just doesn't have his bright colors that he did in the pet shop. I thought maybe it was my lighting because mine are significantly brighter than what was in the pet shop but standard reasoning (to me anyway) would suggest that would only make him look brighter. Whats strange to me though is I had another one in a smaller tank when I first started this hobby; I was stupid and didn't know any better, but he had no business being in a 40 gal tank, however in that tank that fish had some of the brightest colors I have ever seen. Strange fish. I hope it comes back with time, I would hate to find him stuck to my overflow, I really love the foxface.
