months and still foxface...

HMMMM....thats really interesting. I will try that right now. I will report back in a few days with what happens. Thanks again for the idea.

so I tried the no water movement thing and no noticeable changes. In fact I think it irritated them if anything cuz none of them would come out. Any other ideas for his color issues.

Sorry I have no other ideas westwind. My Foxface is looking good now with the current on, but really looks great when I shut the current off. Not just my Foxface, but all my other fish like the "down time" as well when I shut all the pumps off. Sorry if this idea caused your fish any stress.....my fish seem to love it. Best of luck with your Foxface.

I don't think they were stressed really....just didn't seem to take to the change in water too well. What about diet. I have been feeding him algea sheets but he seems to really eat alot of the meaty stuff I put in the tank (fish eggs, shrimp, pellets, etc.) Could a heavy protein/ meat diet possibly explain the dark area.

My Foxface eats anything I put in the tank except red seaweed. He eats the meaty foods up just like the rest of my fish as well as the green/purple seaweed I feed it. I would think the protein/nutrition it gets from the "meaty stuff" would help the color of the fish not hurt it.

In my case, my Foxface was in my 75 gallon for a couple of years. He ate like a pig, meaty, pellet, flake etc. I did not feed algae sheets. My Fox kept subdued coloration with a cloudy grayish appearance.

My Fox now has a bright yellow color. Not sure what caused the change but this is the changes I made that may have contributed.

1. I upgraded to a 120 gallon and did not add more rock. More swimming room.

2. I began feeding red algae sheets to the new Kole and Hippo tang in the 120. The Fox LOVES the red algae and pigs out on it. Something in the red algae help ??

3. I added 2200 GPH more flow in the 120.

Not sure if any of this has anything to do with the color improvement or just a coincidence.

well I cant afford any bigger tank right now but I can try the flow thing and the red algea and see what happens. I just find it weird that when I bought him, he was perfect and in a tank about 30 gal with 5 other fish his size and then he gets in mine and poof...all weird.

i wish i could afford a bigger tank....although my tank is 60x18x18, he's still kind of dull he's getting pretty fat though now...eating/pooping monster been mixing in mysis shrimp with dinner now nothing's changed....

Yeah, tank size may not have made a difference. Could it be the Hippo and Kole tang ? The Fox follows and swims around all day with both Tangs. Maybe the Fox is more comfortable and relaxed with a couple other active fish to swim with ?

I am just throwing ideas out and really do not have the answer. I had the same problem with my Fox for quite a while and poof his color is back to normal for a month now after the move to the 120. Could the water chemistry be that improved with adding so much new fresh saltwater to make up the water volume difference? Could that be a factor? This is a puzzle that hopefully you will be able to crack. Fox's are such a beautiful fish when they are vibrant.

Is there any chance there is some stray current in the tank? My rabbit did the same thing when a heater malfunctioned and started leaking current.

the stray current is a possibility...although i gotta say if there was stray current wouldnt that effect all the fish in the tank?

ok...random thought again on this subject. I usually as a matter of course QT all new fish for two weeks. I have been using CopperSafe. Any possiblities that could have done something to him that caused the black stripe. Because it seems to be VERY slowly disappearing and revealing his true beauty. Like he is almost flushing something from his body. Its excruciatingly slow but I notice just a little more white and yellow as the weeks pass.
