monticap in biocube

Yes plenty of par and lumens for sps, montipora capricornis is a more forgiving type of sps and is more tolerable to lower lighting as in power compacts i kept mine successfuly under these for quite some time with no issues, hope this helps!

Monti cap grew out of control in my BC 14. Ended up destroying it so I coupld mount some more sticks.

At one point, it grew over the return almost to the left side glass. It was nice at first, but soon grew too large. IMHO, caps should stay out of nanos, or be prepared to frag them a LOT!

FWIW, I started the cap under stock lighting and it grew quite a bit. With LEDs, it just grew faster.

rovster do you have an oceanic or coralife biocube?
I didn't know there was a difference, LOL! Mine has been modded so much anyway, that it probably doesn't matter. I think its the oceanic one. I bought it used. Came with the 2 PCs, and 2 LED moonlights. I can check later today if you want. Its probably 3-4 years old (I've had it for almost 2 years)

Oh, and with my LEDs, I mounted an accidental frag of my monti, and it grew pretty large on the bottom of my tank, just had a deeper red color. Now its a platform where I mount all my nice Zoas, LOL!

There is a difference because there currently are no led upgrade mods for coralife biocubes(the one I have) while there is a wide variety of upgrades for oceanic biocubes

I didn't know that. You could always put some panorama modules in there. I've seen some peolpe basically just tie wrap them in place. Any pictures of the hood? I'm sure if you get creative, you can figure something out.

will I'm actually completely taking the top of and hanging some LED's on the back my goal for this tank which I probably wont reach in a long time is to successfully have a pocillopora thrive in my tank

My poccillopora was literally growing out of the water in my tank. You could keep a pocci up high on stock lights, I know because that and the monti was the first SPS corals I added, and had them for several months before upgrading. Both those corals grew into monsters (for the tank size) and had to be continually fragged. I traded the pocci away, and dismantled the monti, and now I have much smaller, slower growing, but very colorful acros in the top section.

You should be fine. Poccis are not too difficult, and as long as you keep the water clean, should thrive in your tank. Once they get to the size of about 2-3", they grow super fast.

I'm not familiar wiht the Par bulbs, but have generally heard good things. Not sure if one would be enough, or you'ld need more. What do they recommend for the 14 gal? I can't imagine you couldn't grow a monti under it, especially near the top.
