Montipora Issue

Any pharmacy that does compounds (meaning, a real pharmacy, not a national chain) will make Lugol's solution for you.

Do you just ask the pharmacist for Lugol's and they'll know what that is?

I did my first lugols treatment tonight. It went fine, was surprisingly difficult to dab the solution on the montipora! The damn q-tips kept sticking to the coral. It was hard to tell if I was covering all of the infected area.

I looked closesly on both sides of the coral and saw no nudi's so I'm happy about that!

Thanks menard for the lugols!

I believe you are supposed to mix the Lugol's in a bowl or bucket of water and dip the coral in. I could be mistaken.

Lugols can be diluted or applied directly with caution. So yea you can do that!

thanks,

Rick

P.S. Glad you don't have a nudi problem

YEP!

I'm not exactly sure how the lugols works but it looks like the areas that I applied it to are totally dead and bleached. I'm thinking that such a strong dose applied directly to the infected areas kills both the infection and the coral underneath which was probably dead already. Now that the infection is gon, I would expect the coral to grow over the dead spots soon.

I could be wrong!

Put super glue directly on the dead spots and overlap into the live tissue and your troubles will be over.

Now , just live it alone,he'll recover and encrust over the dead part.

Lugos is a very strong oxidizer, kill all infectious deseases upon contact.:blown:

the death could have been caused by low salienity, i had a couple pieces dying like that and it turned out that my salienity had dropped from 1.024 to 1.021 over a week or so once i corrected it everything is re growing..
just my 2c

Here is the montipora after a heavy dose of lugols. This stuff is powerful but I think in this situation, the right fix.
