Moorish Idol

Just thought I'd share a picture of my moorish idol. I've had him for 6 weeks now and he eats like a pig. He eats frozen, pellets, nori, and expensive corals! Doesn't go after the cheaper corals, only the really nice stuff haha. It's okay though.. I removed what he nips on and put it into my frag tank. Fingers crossed that he continues to thrive.

How in the world do reefers like you keep algae down? I right now I have no fish in my tank and theres still algae growing like crazy! If you dont use gfo how do you keep your place so pristine?

To be completely honest with you, I have no idea how I've been so lucky with algae.. I have zero algae growing in my tank. I do have a decent clean up crew which has doubled in size since I see about 100 - 200 baby snails that have grown to be about 1cm in length now.. I need to start removing a lot of them because they are going to starve. I feed very heavy too.. I feed about 6-8 cubes of frozen per day and have my apex auto feeder feed pellets 3 times a day. Bioload is high too. Only thing I do is have an awesome skimmer.. And I grow chaeto in my fuge like crazy. I honestly think I grow a handful of new chaeto a day. Nitrates are 10-15 and phosphates .08

So two things you got going that I dont. Cheato is growing (my cheato has a cheap light while my dy is blasted with the power of watts. Also you have snails. I have 1. Need to get a group going for liveaquia and but like 20 snails.

If you were closer I'd give you a bunch of snails for free!

Try this for your chaeto light..

It's worked wonders for me. I give away a 5 gallon bucket of chaeto to my local fish guy every few weeks.

Good looking fish I had one for 2 years and I have to sell it cause it's start to nip at my sps

I ordered it from Blue Zoo aquatics. I was specifically looking for one from Hawaii. He was eating as soon as I fed a few hours after acclimation.

Where did you buy him from ? (The fish)

Yea mine has picked away at some nice chalices so I pulled them out and put them into the frag tank in my garage for now.. Fish or coral fish or coral lol. It's a tough one for me because he looks so awesome swimming around that I'm willing to work around what kinda corals I keep that he doesn't like to pick at. Guess I might have to switch to SPS dominant since he doesn't even acknowledge the existence of my acros.

I have one that I've had for some months now. Beautiful fish- nips bites out of sps but hasn't munched anything else yet. I was hoping it'd eat the small colony of green brown palys but it doesn't touch them. Mine eats only mysis and flakes, doesn't touch nori or pellets. It loves flake food more than anything and isn't too crazy about mysis but will eat them if really hungry.

It will compete for sure because the chaeto will use up nutrients to grow which helps starve other algaes.

I'm far from Long Beach.. I'm up near Magic Mountain. Not worth it for snails. Like Ben recommended I'd try Ellis.. He's not too far from you and cheap! I bought a lot of my cleanup crew from him.

Will that light compete against Mars aqua LED 300 watt in the main DT? :fun5:
I live in Long Beach, close by to that area?

Yeah just checked Aquatics up. Are the store prices the same as online? Or maybe I can do an online buy and a local pickup. Magic Mountain, sounds like an unreal place hehe. Yea rather just buy it local.
