what is everyone's feed back on this fish? I have heard so many things that I wanted to see what you guys think. I want to get one of these fish

They are beautiful fishes. Seen one during my scuba dive Prices on them have really dropped since I last kept marines 30yrs ago. Unfortunately they are not any easier to keep. Your odds of getting one to feed is much lower than with mandarin fishes.

none of your tanks are sufficient for them. They are also "expert only" fish :lol: they arent 100% reef safe either ....IMO a very bad idea sorry

If you like it, get a "wimple fish" instead, or pennant banner butterfly.

i have a 125 that just got done cycling. that isn't big enough

well its a huge gamble.....IMO, good luck. I haven't read "mixed reviews" Ive only read how difficult they are and not to do it :lol: Tanke daves advice and get a wimplefish

Sponges make up a large part of their diet. There are a handful of people on here that have succesfully kept moorish idols, but many of them go out and harvest their own sponge material from the ocean. Unless you are willing to put in that much time and effort, you might want to stick to a bannerfish, or something else.

FWIW, if you like the looks of this fish, consider a couple heniochus butterflys.

If the moor has been living in captivity for 2 years, and is eating well, chances are you MAY have a chance at keeping it. However of your 120 is just set up for a month or so, you are really pushing your luck and the water quality needs to be PRIS- F-E-K-I-N-G-STINE QUALITY to keep them happy and unstressed.

Goodluck... cause you know you are going to get it anyhow...

I also have read that it is not a good idea to get one because of the unlikely chance for survival in captivity.

thanks guys I think I am just going to stick with triggers, angels and other non reef safe fish for this tank.

There are some beautiful angels out there that would do great in there... just do your homework. MINIMALLY, Scott Michael's Marine fishes book- pocket expert guide, is worth getting. I think I paid $12.50 for mine. There are also some excellent books on angelfish, wrasse, etc.
