More gigantea at LA DD

I guess I'm just tired of QTing my own gigs, and my track record isn't very good. And I've gone through hundreds of gallons of saltwater!
I understand. I passed on quite a few gigs just so i wouldn't have to QT them. The drought situation here in CA doesn't help either.

For gigs, I am sticking with "Select and Perfect" approach. That entails selecting a healthy gig and then work on perfecting its condition through correct placement in the tank, light and flow. Unfortunately many gig purchases in this hobby are impulsive even they appear not to be in good shape. I am guilty of it myself and have learned the hard way.

My over confidence has gotten the best of me too. I've purchased gigs that I knew were sick, thinking I could cure them.

I'd even venture to say that they're not good travelers. I picked one up from a LFS and 45 minutes later its mouth was completely inverted. Since then, when I pick up gigantea I ask that the LFS leave them dry in the bag (just enough water to keep them wet).

This is what keeps me up at night, thinking about how am I going to transport my gigs from LA to SF.

I plan to transport them 1 by one, in my 5g cube HT filled 1/2 to 3/4 and use a car power inverter to power a small heater and a powerhead and maybe an aquaclear.

I am testing this approach here in LA (with just water) driving around town to see how it all works.

When I travel to LA I always take one of these:

My plan was to just dump in the nem and water, close it up and drive home. The sloshing should be enough movement and they don't really need a heater since the cooler is insulated.

That's a great idea D!!
And it's so cheap I can mod it...you got my DIY wheels spinning :spin2:

Oh and the Kessil A150 attaches perfectly (this was my plan when we stayed in Santa Maria one night, but i never came back with any anemones or frags):

You could add an eggcrate separator and place a powerhead and small heater on one side if you like.

man... the one day i don't check dd they have a green gig.

if anyone in central florida got it, i would be happy to trade a well established perfectly healthy multi-colored gig and some cash for the green one :) i have a couple multi-coloreds and would very much like a green....

Transporting in a cooler is a great idea. But give second thoughts to using plastics as a ht I used a sterilite clear container and I think it may have been my downfall. Rumor has it they leach chemicals into the water. Its not what there disigned for.

I agree. They should be used for transport only. And I have yet to add water directly to the cooler, it's usually used to moved bagged fish, inverts, and coral.
