OK.. here is today's mess!

Since my mom feel and broke her knee while visiting... RIGHT IN THE MIDDLE OF MY TANK SETUP... everything got put on hold a couple of days. My live rock with lots of shrooms and a few other softies has been in a rubbermaid with a heater and a pump since Friday night. This morning, water is cloudy... smells bad... what is happening and what do I do?

BTW.... Tank is almost done now... one small peice of tube and that will start the skimmer and we are done! Well except for all the rest of it lol---- tank will be functional I guess I should say.

Sorry to hear about your mom hope she gets better soon. SOmething is dieing, pull all the stuff out and inspect for death, remove any, siphon any bits of death, do a water change, run carbon, crank up the skimmer, add some true polyfilter. something may have been touching each other or it got too hot. If it was xenia it just melts and fould water easily.

It was encrusted with mushrooms.... I was planing to put it all in the the tank today.... can I check for damage , remove the bad stuff and put it in the tank?

BTW ... love the coral my hubby picked up from you on Saturday.... not to worry it is in the established tank.

I would think a tank would be a better place to andle dieoff than a bucket, as long as it's not the established tank. All above directions would still apply.

Vigorous shake the rock on the old water and then change it out for fresh. Remove any obviously dead critteres and add an airstone bubbler if you have one

I agree. Definitely, run the skimmer in the new system as well. Plus, like epon said, make sure you run some reef carbon, let me know if you need some.

Thanks all. Rock in tank.. house smells much better. Running skimmer and carbon. Have family issue (funeral now) and have to leave it for a couple day... hope it is better when I get back... this week has been insane!

Michelle, please clarify!!! Mom falls and gets hurt, now you are talking funeral. I'm sure it isn't your mom, but please clarify.

Sorry... my head is spinning. The funeral is for a family friend, but I have to take my mom to Mt. Vernon and help her get ready and go to the funeral. The Dr. ordered a CAT Scan today. He was very thorough. I like him a lot. He said he will have a better idea how to proceed when he gets the results of the scan. He did a much more thorough exam than the ER doctors did. It was painful for mom but I think he probably was able to tell a lot more about her condition. We still don't know if mom will need surgery.. I will keep you posted. It has been an unbelievable week. Thank to all my friends here for helping and keeping touch with me.

It was nice to see your husband in Champaign. The livestock we both picked up was beautiful.
